Title: Special Editions? Are they worth it?
Post by: Rman on March 27, 2008, 02:45:44 AM
This generation the special edition software sku has been been very prominent, especially with PS3 and 360 titles.  In general they were pretty rare last generation, but this generation special edition skus are available for most major releases.  The last special edition I purchased was Lost Planet 360.  :-\  And for the most part I've sworn them off.  I'd rather keep my 10 bucks. Much like DVD special edition releases, I rarely peruse the bonus content, and the metal tins don't look very appealing with other games on my shelves.  Do any of guys still buy special editions for software releases?

I never buy special editions unless I'm getting the game late and the SE has already dropped in price.

Depends if they are a special edition tin case like Vegas or whatever, or a REAL special edition like the Halo 3 helmets, Bioshock Figures or GTA boxes. I'll buy it if it has fancy stuff, but if it's just a metal case with a making of DVD I'll skip it.

Soundtracks are my weakness.

Some are pretty cool I'd must admit.  Blizzard special editions are always well done.

the only special edition of a game I bought was for halo 2 in which yes I would say it was worth it, "tin" + much better case design, Id think they stole it actually :lol
