Title: Man, London in the 1800s was awesome
Post by: TVC15 on March 28, 2008, 11:21:41 PM
I am watching From Hell now.  London seems a lot like the streets of Rome during Caligula's reign, what with all the vulgarity, pissing, vomiting, and fucking going on in the streets.  All that's missing is the dildo street vendor from Caligula.  And nudity.

I could totally imagine you as Sherlock Holmes.  His ego, emotional detachedness, and cold, calculative nature all resemble aspects of your personality.

I really wanted to get into The Awakening. I mean, Holmes, Cthulu, and New Orleans? It's almost too awesome.

Once I get past a certain point in the bottle, I like to imagine life in the old days. Sadly, it always devolves into how much easier it would be to live a life of crime in this distant, simpler time.  :'(

I totally have a hardon for the 19th century.  Whether it's the Dark Romantics, Transcendentalists, Romantics, Symbolists, or Decadents.  The only major 19th century fad I'm not totally pleased with is probably naturalism.

Modern life is rubbish.

If I wasn't such a technophile I'd think it a noble cause to hole up in the hills, disassociating myself from the twenty-first century.

skin disease, rotten teeth, a river of feces trickling down the streets, dying from fevers which could be broken with aspirin...think of all the fun we're missing

You just described Alabama.

In any case, that's a very pessimistic way to look at it.  :-\

Living in the future isn't the problem, the problem is we aren't far enough into the future. Fucking scientists need to get off their lazy asses and get to work on the following: VR, sentient AI, and cybernetic enhancements. I want to be a cyber cowboy, hardwired directly into THE NET and roaming the frontier of the Wild Wild Web! And just so everybody's happy, this could cause our society to turn decadent, and we could go back to vomiting and pissing in the streets and such.
