Just went back to play it. Man the game is good.
The world is so cohesive with the enemies, the sound, the level design.
I feel the one aspect of the game that is totally underlooked(and knocked) is the enemy AI.
It really does a great job of keeping me engaged, I am playing by myself and it truly does stand on it's own 2 feet as a brilliant single player game.

for me it was pretty much like:
singleplayer: meh
co-op: holy flurking schnitt
game changes entirely when a second player is added. encounters get a lot more interesting because you can flank the locust and don't have to worry about babysitting Dom or any of your other teammates. Co-op Gears is one of the finest experiences i've had on the 360. Singleplayer is just boring, OR frustrating if you're playing on insane.

I dont like 2 player coop, very gay talking to another dude(or worse a kid)
4 player coop in vegas keeps things safe.
-
ummm... thats why you play with someone you know
-
gay? wtf
-
2 player co-op is fun unless you play with lyte edge who dies all the fucking time.
playing the multiplayer battles is fucking gay.
-
I still liked the SP :\
I don't really play on INSANE like people do that complain about it. "MAN the COOP AI on INSANE is GARBAGE!!!"
Well okay. :\
But Coop is excellent. Never touched MP, hear it's broken.
-
MP was good for about a month, then everyone realized how broken it was. What was there was great, some things needed balancing, but the netcode was the biggest problem. If you were hosting it was almost impossible to not dominate. The sense of tension when you're the last man alive is unmatched. Very few MP games give you that feeling. I thought MP was great, outside of the shitty netcode.
SP is good whether you're playing through on coop or not.
-
The melee balancing in multiplayer was ridiculous at first. I don't think they have patched it still.
-
They patched some things but left a bunch of exploits and bugs after multiple upgrades. Outside of extra Maps/Modes Epic's MP support was kind of shit to be frank. Pistol melee was a overpowered, but if the netcode was better a single shotgun blast would destroy anyone who came in that close. Since the netcode was borked other balance issues arouse directly because of it.

*clears throat*
Overrated.

Another game I love that jaded forumites hate. Add this on to the list right under twilight princess.

Hates Freedom.

Soundtrack is fucking stellar too. The game is such a complete package. :bow

I just did a co-op run on Insane a few weeks ago and loved it. I'm not sure I ever played the SP in SP.
I love the competitive multi too, fuck the hate. I got into it again a few weeks ago and the host lag isn't as bad as people say and there was no cheating.
-
i need to do co-op and finish it on insane some day :-\
-
ya me 2, i got my copy free from APF holla
-
Finally beat it on hardcore today. 60 more ach points. I may start to play through on nightmare now.
