Seriously. Wall-E, Bee Movie, Eli Stone and Nim's Island all use the song as a theme. They're not even different versions, they all use Brazil's version. Is this just because anything Pixar = popular, or is it some kind of renaissance for Aquarela do Brasil?

I've noticed this too, and it's not just Hollywood, I've seen it on regular commercials even before Wall-E. I dunno why.

It's because everyone who watched Brazil is conditioned to associate the song with breaking out of a rut and doing something adventurous. (http://crookedtimber.org/2007/06/16/zeitgeiiiiist-la-la-lala-la-la-la-la/) That's how it's used in all those examples, I think.

Oy. Reviewing a movie by sussing out its ideological tilt (for most people on a right-left axis, in FoC's case a libertarian-statist one) is a pretty joyless way to approach art.
I figured that in spite of his paint chip diet, FoC was safe from that sort of behavior, since we should expect a film student to actually enjoy film.

Hm I'm confused:

Brazil is one of the few truly amazing things Gilliam has ever done.
Boy, do I need that Criterion.
