Despite the PlayStation 2's utter dominance during the previous console cycle, we began to notice a trend emerging from casual conversations with developers: many of them were doing the bulk of their gaming on the Xbox. When asked, said game makers cited a variety of reasons, including better graphics, a wider selection of first-person shooters, and, of course, the superior online functionality of Xbox Live. This developer gap has only become more pronounced with the Xbox 360's yearlong head start and Sony's shockingly un-integrated Playstation Network feature set. We've spoken with a number of developers who don't even own PS3s; among those who do, several use it as nothing more than a Blu-Ray player. What's more, we've been to countless press events where third-party publishers are demonstrating their multiplatform games with nary a PS3 in the house. And when inquiries are made about its absence, we're greeted with a look that's either sheepish or knowing, as if it's now simply taken for granted that the PS3 version is of course lagging behind its Xbox 360 counterpart. Such is the state of PS3 development among third parties today.

Sorry, but YearofPS3.com says the PS3 is doing just fine. Newsweek doesn't have any credibility.

Explains the abundance of bald space marine shooters this gen.

i hear ms is making a new console.. xbox 360 something. hopefully we'll find out more this e3.

I love how you morons' best defense is that a 10 day old article is too old to be relevant.
-
it's not relevant because every major release for a while now has been up to par with the 360 version

Better online implementation is still a big draw for the 360. I love my PS3 but in game messaging, achievements and gamerscore are a big a draw for me. When I play my PS3 and even Wii I feel disconnected. I've been satisfied with all the systems, but MS really showed their strength with XBL.

well, in there defense , i did see this months ago too. I'm sure this is a rehashing of the same story from elsewhere and i recall "accidental exclusive" being used and the bit about there being no versions shown on PS3.
I'm more surprised that devs had preferred the Xbox even in last gen. Considering the MS stigma and how strong the PS2's support was, it's pretty amazing that many devs had preferred the Xbox instead.

Not really. Eurogamer's recent comparisons show that PS3 versions of multiplatform games are still trailing their 360 counterparts.

True, I still tend to pick up PS3 versions of multiplatform titles if they don't have a strong online component. For example, I bought DMC4 for the PS3 and Burnout Paradise for the 360.
-
Online capabilities don't really factor into my multiplatform purchases. Graphics and control come first and in most cases, the 360 wins.
Recently, I also game more on my 24" monitor than on my 1080P TV so the 360's scaling capabilities come in handy. My monitor, like most monitors is pretty lousy at scaling non-native resolutions.

I think the real problem is that when the PS2 came out and its dev tools sucked, the devs didnt have a choice cause OMG hordes of gamers were waiting for PS2. This is a completely different situation where the PS3 is released with crappy tools but the gamers aren't forcing their hand. Either they go to the Wii or X360. The only exclusives are born from odd japcentric alliances.
I own 2 games for my ps3, the rest of my library are blurays. Winning a format war doesnt actually help me enjoy gaming.

Not only that they're cheap but people are going to have experience with them.
