For another sixty dollars, you can get an entire video game system to go along with your rumble feature.
-
Okay, I'm a little hung over, so is this a troll or a praise? Or both?
-
I just bought one. It's heavy.
-
I just bought one. It's heavy.
Heavier than the 360 controller?
-
they don't even give you a usb cable, just says on the package to use the one that came with your PS3
well, at least I can play MSG Essential properly now
and i don't feel like i'm going to break it all the time
no, it's lighter than the 360 controller

Definitely lighter, I think.
-
Good.
But much heavier than the Sixaxis. Also good.
-
I was gonna go get one today but instead I'm gonna get one tomorrow.
-
Wow, this is so much better.
I like how you need a not-included USB cable to even sync it lol.
Will the controller charge when the PS3 is turned on standby?
-
I just charge my ps3 controllers on one of my computer's usb ports
-
Oh, I didn't know that worked.
-
"rumble is a last generation feature"
-
yeah, you can do that with the 360 charge packs, too
-
Ok, so now all we have to do is wait for
* Games
* Games
and
* Games
oh and
* Somewhat improved Software BC
And everyone will be buying a PS3 in no time
-
the only ps3 games i currently own are warhawk and nba street homecourt ($9 CC clearance sale, haven't even unwrapped it)
i bought it for ps2 games, and maybe split-screen online warhawk
that was $60 i could have put towards that cheap laptop i'm saving up for, basically
-
You guys also forgot to mention that the L3 and R3 buttons are uber improved.
yeah, you can do that with the 360 charge packs, too
Well fuck my butt.
- if all 3 lights on the DS3 are blinking, does that mean it's fully charged?
-
no, all the lights go out when it is fully charged, takes about 2-3 hours
-
i've got one coming from amazon. i didn't even buy it for the rumble -- i bought it because i want a wireless controller i can actually use wirelessly :-\

Does that mean the dropouts and hiccups are gone? Cause I was wondering about that.
-
I never had any dropouts with my PAL Sixaxis. None with the DS3 either but I've only had it for 10 days.
-
that big gaf thread suggests that the dropouts are gone -- lots of importers in there. i get dropouts pretty frequently with the sixaxis, and my ds3 is coming on monday, so i should have a fairly definitive answer this time next week
-
Those dropout would kill me literally when I was trying to do high score runs in SSHD. I wanted to throw the suxasses against the wall after dying due to a dropout that made me lose a 8x multiplier.
-
I imported one of the pretty white ones a few months ago. The new one does NOT hiccup....not even once since I have bought it. so much nicer than the goddam dropouts I would experience with the original SIXAXIS (and I went through 5 of them thinking I would get a better one).
-
Dcharlie, what's the cheapest price you can find for the DS2 in Japan? I know Asian game stores tend to have varying prices, unlike the US. Also, what colors do they come in?
I want to know because I plan to ask some friends to get me 2 controllers when they go to Japan.

smh
-
My ps3 controller still fuckin throws up menus random when I watch dvds n shit. It only really matters when im playin say one of my two ps3 games and decide to watch something afterwards and forget to turn the controller off
-
The analog sticks themselves are still mushy as fuck :-\
And I really wish that if Sony won't make their triggers concave, they would at least move the lower part of the controller out a little bit, if you know what I mean. Fully depressing R2 or L2 puts your finger down in an uncomfortable position and it also makes the controller sort of slide up in my hands. If they'd just add an inch of plastic and shift up the 'triggers' accordingly it'd be a nice improvement.
I don't know what the fuck makes them think a design from 1995 (or arguably 1990) is going to hold up to all these different features they want it to have.

agreed, it needs work. But I don't get the complaints re: the analog sticks in the same place. human beings are programmed to work with symmetry. it's hard coded into our brains.
i think people wouldn't complain about stick placement if sony just went with concave sticks....NO idea why they are still convex.
-
Yea, that's another problem along with the mushiness. I'm in the non-symmetry camp though.
When the stick is in the primary/upper position, forward with your thumb is forward with the stick. The other way, you're sorta tilting your thumb left to tilt the stick up. Bam. Plus your thumb is reaching more than it would if the stick naturally fell under it, and your thumbs can touch.

I understand people liking it. It's comfortable for a certain type of game. But on a very fundamental level, the perfect symmetry of the dual shock 3 is a very advanced ergonomic design. They just haven't really matched that design forwardthinkingness at all over the past ten years.
Why are the handles so short? Where are dedicated triggers? Why are the sticks convex? On the sixaxis, why are the sticks so loose?
I definitely love the DS3 though. I can definitely see me playing more PS3 games using it now. It feels great great great with Dark Sector.

Because most games use the left analog stick for movement instead of the D-pad? The Xbox's left analog stick is in the position as the D-pad for 2D consoles . If you've been playing games since the 2d days, holding your left thumb in the upper corner just feels more comfortable than putting it in the middle.
-
yea, wtf at the handles. fuck
-

the problem is that sony LOOKED like they were going to correct this with the boomerang and then the fanboys had a SHITFIT and they went back to the dual shock. i'm not ever going to say the ds isn't a great base design, but it's so outdated at this point :\
-
Well yea, who can knock the SNES controller?
Unfortunately I don't need the d-pad placed as the primary input method in 2008, let alone 2016 when PS3 is finally being replaced and Sony sits on the throne of #1 once again.
