Fucking nothing.  Mondays suck.  No amount of capitalist whoring will fix that.

however, my 360 is supposed to be back today

preordered this from those wacky swedes at Paradox so I can get the digital distro release:

I think I will find a way to make TVC's family name into nobility, then appoint him as an Aedile. I don't know if the game has a 'rider of the vomit comet' character trait though.  :'( Though I could mod it in!  :o :D

Is there a demo of that, Frag?  I have never played anything in that series, but I am interested in something strategery-esque.

I bought the illustrated Elements of Style.  I wanted to go out aimlessly shopping tonight, but I'm not in the mood anymore.

yeah there is one covering the second punic war, rome and carthage playable. Zero documentation and zero tutorial, though, and it's a mean ol' Paradox game like the others. Here's the link if you want to give it a go:

Played it twice this weekend as both sides, then loaded up EU3: NA and have a game as Portugal where I have conquered 3/4 of habitable South America by 1560 with a goal of complete Western Hemisphere domination by 1793. Fun stuff.

How is A Boy and his Dog in comparison to the movie?

both more serious and sillier than possibly imaginable

the best telling of that tale is the Corben comic adaptation

less slapstick, but still enjoyable. movie is actually a pretty good adaptation. hate the last line, tho. (of the movie) esp. since the last line of the story is so much more powerful.

I have a silly question: what do the illustrations add to the book?

my copy of Fritz Lieber's A Specter is Haunting Texas came in!!!!

Quote
Scully Christopher Crockett La Cruz is an actor, fortune seeker and adventurer from the long isolated orbital technocratic democracies of Circumluna and the Bubbles Congeries. He lands in what he believes to be Canada to reclaim family mining interests only to discover that Canada is now North Texas and what is left of civilization in North America is ruled by primitive, backslapping, bigger than life anti-intellectual "good ole boys" convinced of their own moral superiority.

In the tortured version of history known to the giant hormone-boosted Anglo-Saxon inhabitants who rule a diminutive Mexican underclass, the original Texas, or Texas, had actually secretly ruled the pre-nuclear war United States since 1845.

"Of it was never given out to the general public in the states, who never had no brains or guts nohow and flustered easy, that this assumption of leadership was annexation--but it was always known to the speaker of the House and the senators who counted in Washington that secretest treaty Texas was boss...With the coming of the Third World War and the atomization of Washington, New York, San Francisco, and so forth, secrecy became unnecessary..." (p. 22)

Texas escaped the nuclear destruction of the rest of the United States because of the foresight of Lyndon the First. An emormous bunker then known as the Houston Carlsbad Caverns-Denver-Kansas City-Little Rock Pentagram and now referred to simply as the Texas Bunker had saved the heartland during a war that destroyed both American coasts, Europe, Russia, China, and Africa. Texas then conquered the rest of the continent, although Hawaii and Cuba remain stubbornly "unconquered."

it's amazing when science fiction gets world events so right!

Nothing.  The illustrations are usually 1 page drawings illustrating a concept or phrase in a cutesy way.  It's like, gift edition illustrations, not medical book illustrations where they actually have a use.
