In this thread we post all the best stupid mistakes from actors, writers, directors, producers, etc. that Hollywood has ever made, in hopes that someone will provide some interesting trivia we haven't heard before.

From Halloween:

According to Don Post Jr., President of Don Post Studios, the famous California mask making company, the filmmakers originally approached his firm about custom making an original mask for use in the film. The filmmakers explained that they could not afford the numerous costs involved in creating a mask from scratch, but would offer Post points in the movie as payment for his services. Post declined their offer, as he received many such proposals from numerous unknown filmmakers all the time, but suggested that they repaint/refurbish the "Captain Kirk" masks eventually used in the film, which eventually was done, and which netted Mr. Post a profit of less than $100. Post later estimated, after the film became a hit, that if he had accepted the original offer for points in the film in exchange for his creation of an original mask, his profit would have run well over $100,000.

From The Exorcist:

John Boorman had been offered the chance to direct "The Exorcist" but declined because he felt the storyline was "cruel towards children". He did, however, accept the offer to direct Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977).

From Pulp Fiction:

The role of Marsellus Wallace was originally going to be played by Quentin Tarantino favorite, 'Sid Haig' . At the last minute, Haig turned it down, saying that it was "too TV".

From Spider-Man 1 and 2:

Sony Pictures was counting on recruiting talent from their roster of competent directors, but unfortunately the terrible scripts and casting for the two movies left them with no option but Sam Raimi to squander budget on. The result? The two worst comic book movies ever made.

Less than a year later, auteur director Chris Nolan gave us Batman Begins, the greatest superhero movie ever made. Sam Raimi never found work again outside of tonguing the eczema off Brian Singer's balls in a low-rent Orange County spa.
