Worthless. Everyone I have read while playing an RPG is either full of stupid information to fill space or lacking FUNDAMENTALS to make the game easier:
Case #1: Valkyrie Profile 2 -- While they do cover the bonus hardcore extra dungeon in the game, the guide is lacking in description and tactics near end game. Additionally the very BASIC SPHERE system is ignored when they could be mentioned in key boss battles.
For example one boss battle involved an enemy that regenned 36000 hp. The game suggests I use WEAKEN. Ok wtf spell is WEAKEN. I cant find it on any of my mages, cant find an item that casts it. There IS prismatic missle which causes FRAIL which is what they're imaginary WEAKEN is.
In reality you can simply use the +150% attack No HP Regen Sphere on the dungeon to keep the boss from regenerating entirely! WTF!
Cast #2: Final Fantasy XII -- The guide is HUGE OMG HUGE. The license board poster is great, there's a lot of cool background story n shit, lots of monster charts, weapons crap, and secrets, BUT WHAT ABOUT GETTING THROUGH THE DUNGEONS HUH?!?! God damnit the writers are dispensing information like:
"IF U DONT HAVE ENUFF MONEY! SELL STUFF!"
"EVEN IF U DONT HAFF MONEY BROWSE SHOPS!"
Well shit kids, I better SELL STUFF TO GET MONEY! IF I DONT WANNA DO THAT I CAN "WINDOW SHOP"
Jesus Christ. FAQs have more detail.

Do you want 24 hours off? I figure some other mod got his kicks in, might as well get mine

The only guides I ever found worth it were the Halo 2 and SSBM official ones. Everything else you could look for on gamefaqs but I never play RPG's so possibly they have enough freedom where you may need to know what to do.

The last guide I bought:

It had scratch and sniff stickers!
Then I discovered the internetz.

Well to be fair the FFXII guide has some nice art in it, so did the Okami guide. However the Okami guide was actually decent.
-
I think they play like half the game and crib the rest from Japanese strat guides, and the bad translations are the reason the endgame guidance is gibberish
seriously, though the FF12 guide has VERY little actual STRATEGY -- it's just a lameduck walkthrough without any walking through where it matters: dungeons. DOUBLEJUMP PLEASE SAVE US FROM BRADY

I think I was just about done with any strategy guide when the guide for FF IX required me to go to playonline.com to get certain parts of the guide. FUCK THAT BULLSHIT! THAT'S WHY I BOUGHT THE GUIDE! I go to Gamefaq's and print out guides at work.

I did for Fable because I love that game and everything that has to do with it. Before that, the last one I bought was for FF XI because it was really fucking useful. Haven't bought one since Fable though.

Well written strat guides are useful, especially if you have a low tollerance for frustration and too many games to play.
I Really only buy them for long adventure games and RPGs

You could just call me up and I'll walk you through it.
