i've finally been able to sit down and play my new silent hill origins and guess what? it's good old silent hill. the creep factor is way high, the music and sound effects are perfect matches to the moods, and the level design and graphics are perfect horror quality. mind you i've only played through the first level in the hospital but i've noticed that the important things that make a good silent hill game are here. namely the game is actually in silent hill from the start, unlike 3 or 4 (which never even went to silent hill). also, my favorite bits like puzzles and clues all over the place that done in a first person narrative fashion that you have to contextually apply to the puzzle after collecting the pieces or coming to a locked door.
the graphics are psp/ps2 level though it's in widescreen. i'm such a huge fan i've looked past that. the combat is also definitely silent hill. i don't mind that, except this time the guy can use his fists. that's good since all the weapons seem to be destroyed and gone after a few uses leaving you empty handed.
i'll be playing more, but it's good to see another silent hill game and it makes me hungry for the ps3 version that is being made right now (which i hope comes to 360 since i don't have a ps3 and may not get one until the price drops a great deal).

this game was garbage... jesus dude its like a not as offending Silent Hill 4
and uh, Silent Hill 5 is multiconsole.. where did you get the idea it was PS3 only
-
i don't see how the game is garbage.... :(
i realized after i posted that sh5 was multi-console, not ps3 exclusive as i had read in egm months ago. but i figured there is no reason to correct it since no one was reading the thread.

I mostly agree with demi, but would add the following:

Yatzee pretty much nails it. I especially like his comment to the effect of 'when was equipment durability ever good in a game?"

Yahtzee basically regurgitates what I said... see, he is not that special.

Just get it on the PS2.
Or just don't get it at all.

you guys were right, i was wrong. there - i posted it.
i got to the last level and the guns don't work on the monsters in the tight spaces, or at least i have to shoot them five times, and then they hit me anyway and i don't have enough health items. it's not fun to play a game where the scary part is that you can't kill the monsters. i'm over this shit. the environments were great and the sound effects were spooky, but the gameplay is ass.
it's time to play something else.
