Title: Anno 1701. So fun.

I think we had a thread about this a few weeks ago, but I can't believe this game didn't get more press. It's a pretty classic Settlers-esque strategy came in the classic PC mold. There ar some annoyances- Civic buildings, which are expensive and BIG- tend to have sort of poor areas of influence. This isn't a big deal if build them in the middle of your populations, but because so many of them only become available and required after a lot of population growth, you either need to plan WAY ahead, which is difficult in the early game, or build more than one, which is expensive.

But the core gameplay is pretty fun. It reminds me of a more action packed Civ.

Yea it is awesome as fuck.  Best strategy DS game by far. Have you tried the sailing yet to find that chick?  I'm currently replaying my old copy of Metroid Zero mission on the GBA cart port but I need to get back to Anno soon.   8)

The Iriquois lady? This game has a long fucking tutorial. The next round is even better, although it seems like people just wanna mooch off you all the time.

So I just played a custom game and couldn't place a shipyard on ANY coast. WTF?

I can't speak for the DS game, but I was so hooked on the PC version I was churning out multipage spreadsheets last year to solve some of the game's more challenging optimization scenarios. My only complaint was that the AI was sort of easy past the opening phases of the game.
