I liked Sin City. I really liked 300. But this looks meh, especially the flipping-in-the-sky-walking-on-phone-lines stuff.

Miller is a hack. He's been recycling his "Superman sucks" gimmick for the past 20 years.
-
Superman does suck. I've only read one of Miller's comics (an issue of Sin City, which I liked) but I always hear good stuff about it, mainly The Dark Knight.
-
It's Will Eisner's The Spirt, you fucking moron.
-
that looks far far far better than i thought it would
i am cautiously interested
i mean if anyone can do the spirit now that eisner himself is dead, why not the man who had a long time close friendship to him?
-
Yeah, I agree. I'm cautiously optimistic. I have a feeling that Frank will stray from Eisner's source material, but respect his legacy. And that's the best you can ask for when you're probably the most underrated icon in the comic book industry.
I think a lot of this will depend on what kind of performance Frank gets out of his principle cast - Sam Jackson in particular can phone it in pretty horribly for a paycheck.

It's Frank Miller's film. Go eat some chocolate wafers

Looks like shit to me. Not even using Morricone's Untouchables music could save that trailer.
I really can't see anything negative about it - it looks a little too much like Sin City, but we haven't even seen the whole thing. Call it "shit" at this point seems a little bit silly from a rough cut teaser that clocks in under a minute.
And Maurice, it's his film, but even the posters list it as WILL EISNER'S THE SPIRIT. It's his property. And Frank Miller had pretty much nothing to do with the adaptation of 300.
-
omg willco's trolling my thread and i don't have mupepe.com to bitch about it :o
It's Miller's vision of Eisner's work. I know Miller had little to do with 300, I've got the special edition DVD. The Spirt is Miller's movie though

I'm thinking about the fat steak Carlene picked up from the butcher today

Definitely seeing this.

Darwyn Cooke? I really like his current version.
I can't help but feel that The Spirit is just a dated character that doesn't make sense in any kind of modern setting though.
-
it's honestly left me a bit cold
it's a good treatment of a character whose name is the spirit but it doesn't really capture the joy of discovery within the form for me that Eisner's originals do.
though to be fair i stopped after the fourth issue, so it may have changed but i don't think it has from the reviews i read

The voice over in that trailer reminded me of the voice over in that movie Windy City Heat.

I like Clive Owen's portions of Sin City.
Also, Superman doesn't really suck PD. Overrated, yeah, but you should check out some of the well-regarded graphic novels. Especially the Death of Superman.
And I don't know, Miller's Batmans are good and all, but I always preferred the Loeb/Sale combo in the 90s. Except for Year One.
