Time to put Ikaruga to rest and get back to another old fling. Super Stardust HD finally got an expansion that has new modes, new enemies, added rumble, difficulty select for Arcade, and a customizable soundtrack option. Here's a quick rundown of the new modes:
Endless- Similar to the way Geometry Wars is set up. One planet, 3 lives, and a gradual build of random enemy waves. Lots of new enemies from a gooey blue gelatin to an onslaught of tiny, red pyramids. There's also an additional element of an explosive tower that, when destroyed, eradicates everything on the sphere with one giant wave. My favorite of the new modes and possibly the whole game.
Survival- Here you have one life, one planet, full power, and a timer. Essentially the longer you stay on the planet the more of these indestructible purple balls drop down on it. You will mostly be picking up time increases as items but occasionally you with get bombs (good for the casual enemy but useless for spheres) and rarely you might get a shield. Quickest mode in the game.
Bomber- You start off with one ship and a lot of bombs. Basically it's like endless but you're only bombing the enemies instead of using your guns.
Time Attack- Basically you're choosing a planet from normal mode and beat it as fast as you can. Haven't had a chance to mess with this yet.

Holy shit I :bow to your skills. I'm at 70,000,000 on normal. :-\
I'll add you to my list when I get a chance (I'll pop up as Elecman). Sadly I don't think I will ever touch Normal again because of that score. It took me almost 3 hours to reach it and I was hallucinating flying ships and flames for days afterwards. Unless they add a quicksave feature in the future that mode is nonexistant to me. Endless is where it's at!

I'll add you guys--TVC, Cohen, Prole, Y2Kev and Enl--to my PSN friend list. I love Stardust HD and the new added content has got me back in. Kudos for the thread, Enl.
My tag is rattlemonster.

Added Rman's scores and updated my Survival score. Finally past the 3 minute mark in that mode. At that point the sphere is so covered in balls that it starts to rely on blind luck. Also found out that shields are present in that mode, but they so rarely appear. Here's some help for Survival:
-Always shoot! The full powered spread helps generate a tiny space in front of you.
-Bombs very briefly push the balls away. So save your bombs at the end when things get too hectic.
-Gather bombs quick in the beginning because you're not going to have time to think about them later.
-When the balls surround you, dash away!
-Always be aware of when your dash recharges.
-Most importantly: the time items can be dashed through and multiplied just like the points.

What the fuck.
Yeah, I don't think I'll bother posting my score....of course I don't really play it that much either.
-
how long did it take you to get to 371mil? two days?
-
3 hours, which is why I'm never touching Normal again. The game gets progressively harder everytime you beat it. Asteroids break apart into smaller pieces and everything moves faster. This is why I put the mode at the bottom of the scoresheet, it's only for the masochists. The new modes are much shorter and similar to the pacing of Geometry Wars.

Bomber mode is so awesome. Like the new retro soundtrack option too. Also like that there's now the explanation and difficulty selection for normal mode. Lots of things to like here, definately worth the 4.99.
Must was I was pretty friggin shocked at the DL size of the expansion, it's like 244k or something. But after it installs, the next time you go to launch SSHD it tells you there's a required update to the tune of 153MB... thank god. I was terrified for a minute that all the 'new' content was already in the game and you were just paying to unlock it :P

Jojo, I thought the same thing about the small download.

my PSN id is hypoetical
you can add me to the mix

What in the world?!
-
I know.
It's the result of an epic back and forth battle with Beatbox on Gaf. Sadly he came out on top. If I remember correctly he's currently sitting on 930 million.
I just don't have the motivation anymore :(

Hey fistfulofmetal! Good to see you on this forum. I already have you on my PSN list (I'm under Elecman) so I will add you to the score sheet later today. It's good to see some major competition pop up.

I know what you mean. I can't bring myself to stare at the screen for hours anymore. Here we can have epic mini battles instead!

Hey fistfulofmetal! Good to see you on this forum.
Finally decided to sign up after my recent ban. Even though it's only until 10pm today >.>
And yeah. Maybe we can have a new set of high scores separate from the established scores.
The only other new mode that I've put time into is Endless. I think my top score is 23 million? Can't really recall.

Updated the score sheet. I love Sony products. I was kicking some ass in endless, had my multiplier up to X8, and was already passing my previous high score, when all of a sudden the controller went "FUCK YOU!!!!" and conked out not once but TWICE! :maf
-
I'm still a newb, but how do I get my multiplier up?
