Now I have to go track down each individual driver for my network card, audio, video, and a whole bunch other shit that should have been included on a disc.

recovery partitions are bullshit

I couldn't believe it when the shit little PC I got from Best Buy a few years ago didn't even come with the one thing that made the purchase worthwhile, Windows XP Install discs.

Is there any way I can figure out what drivers I need for my NIC without cracking open my PC and taking it out? Don't know what I have other than this: http://www.pcidatabase.com/search.php?device_search_str=03ef&device_search=Search

there's not that many pre-set ones that Windows gives you if you choose to install the driver manually from that list.  Go through and see if one works.  I've done that before and it was for another device but it worked.

Judging from that link you likely have an nforce motherboard on that machine. What's the model number of the compaq? I can probably link you to full mobo drivers which will have LAN drivers as part of them.

Compaq Presario SR5113WM

The problem is that all Compaq offers on their site are Vista compatible drivers, as that is what the computer's original OS was. Everything else is left for me to search for.
