a really, really good episode of Tales from the Crypt.

Got my 5 free Blu Rays in the other day, so I watched it tonight.  Twisted little flick, although

it's really obvious, especially in HD, that Bale is playing a dual role

I got a kick out of seeing Roger Rees in it, haven't really noticed him in anything since Cheers

Bale was playing a dual role.  This made perfect sense when all was revealed, but the double-twist ending with him coming back and killing Wolverine was a little much at the same time.

the pile of hats and cats. I thought Tesla was just keeping dozens of them around because he kept destroying them, and he wanted whatshisface to think he was using the same test samples. I was distracted while watching it, but I think it was supposed to be obvious right?

The problem with The Prestige for me was that it was a movie that was all about the "twist" but it became so obvious what was going to happen almost right from the beginning.  Zombie Ray Charles could see that ending from a mile away.  Took a lot of the enjoyment away that I might've had for it.

Well, it also might be because I've been sort of into magic since I was a kid, so I'm always looking for the fade, and I knew the movie was probably one big magic trick

I have this cool book of Blackstone's magic tricks from the 1940s somewhere at my folks house (can't find it anywhere, maybe he rose from the grave and reclaimed it)

I traded a bunch of crap comics to get the slipcased hardcover TftC set when I was younger, still have it  (I like Haunt of Fear better, though, for Graham Ingels artwork)

EC comics are awesome all-around

Bale writes the name Tesla on the note he hands Jackman.  When Jackman talks to Tesla, he tells him that he'd already been working on the magic machine Jackman is looking for.  I took that as a hint that Bale's twin brother wasn't really a "birth" twin

I'd get the new hardcovers they've been releasing.  The ones in the slipcases are cheaper overall, but they're printed in black and white (only the covers are color).  The slipcases are oversized and on nice paper, but EC stuff really needs the garish color.

the original archives were good because they were inexpensive and the color reprinting processes at the time would have looked horrible for the paper they were using.

still it was nice to be able to get an entire run of a series for $100, even if it was black and white

the new editions are much nicer, with the color correction and all but i don't really like the series, any of them, enough to pay $50 a pop per six issues.

but their Shock! Suspenstories line is probably my favorite.

as for the movie, i read the book before so i knew what i was getting into.

the book had a great framing device though, which i was kind of sad to see lost for the film
