THE BORE

Against my better judgment and out of sheer boredom waiting for the NFL Draft to get here, I went and downloaded GT5P even though I already played the damn thing before and didn't care for it then. Most fucking boring game ever. Driving lines on unimpressive looking tracks against braindead AI. Why people like this shit is beyond me. And it doesn't look that great imo, or at least not as good as advertised.
*banging my head*
Ugh. Why the hell did I buy this?!?!
-
so you can justify your trolling.
-
I don't mind trolling this piece of shit.
-
REALISM!
yeah its pretty awfull. Hated Forza 1 too when i played it. People would get angry cause i crashed into them in races. Like their cars were real or something YOU BUSTED MY GRILL!
So meh i skipped FM2 and no interest in GT5
-
More details please. I've been waiting to hear more impressions here about GT5:P.
I'm more interested in the technical aspects though. How do they compare to other racers on the market?
Also, is it possible to tune it so that it plays like a semi-realistic racer like Dirt or PGR?

I haven't found anywhere you can actually tune your car but I very rarely do that kind of stuff, hell I'm not really into these types of games anyway. I never even tried Forza 2 outside of the demo.
But I stand by what I've posted earlier about PGR4 being more impressive graphically, at least as far as the tracks and weather are concerned. GT5:P smokes it in car detail though.
-
I meant tuning the game settings, not the cars. Is it possible to make it somewhat bearable for someone that doesn't give a shit about racing lines?
Have they modified the extremely dark lighting or improved the tearing/slowdown?
-
Well I haven't noticed any real problems with screen tearing or slowdown but the game seems just as dark as it was the last time I played it. And yeah, there's an arcade mode so you don't have to stick to the mundane career mode of having to play that lame ass high speed ring over and over again, so it's not just sticking to your lines. You can play high speed bumper cars all over the world.
BTW, I checked the online manual and evidently you can unlock Quick Tune after completing all the events in A, B, and C Classes. So I was wrong about the actual car tuning....which you didn't care about anyway. :p
-
Yeah, I think car tuning is distinguished mentally-challenged. I'm not a fucking mechanic.
Neither the manual nor the game teaches you how to tune stuff like gear ratios. I even bought the official Strategy Guide for GT3 and it still doesn't teach you how to do it.

it could
call it forza 2
add some shitty dmg
and have being developed by dirty asianfags from 1up

have come close to impulse buying this too, then I remind myself of the boring Sony E3 presentation of a car going around a track for 4 hours straight...that is the essence of GT.

nah, I was just hoping you'd keep it going with a different slur.
I'm not personally from a south american country and btw, beaner is for mexicans, I think. My dad is from Argentina, but he was raised there, born in east Euroland

Kranz, don't bother. You don't have to justify your race to that idiot.

Smooth, check out this link:

It's worth referencing and playing around with the settings on a test course to get a good feel for them.
also, calcifer delenda est
-
Thanks, Frag. That would come in handy.
You play racing sims too? What have you played in the past? GTR2?
GTR2 is really awesome but I probably need a good steering wheel to really get the most out of it. The 360 controller doesn't seem to be adequate.
-
ive had it for a month and played about 2hrs and 1 online race. it's a fucking joke of a "demo"
-
Portugal is in Europe...
-
Portugal is in Europe...
i've made a huge mistake
-
i really don't get into racing games unless i can shoot things or cause spectacular crashes, so i avoid most of them
-
I've hated Gran Turismo since its first installment. Never enjoyed racing sims.
-
Well, they could lower the speed. That'd make it more boring. I've never understood these types of games. Give me racing games that emphasize racing excitement, not this sterile, necrophiliac tripe.

whoa whoa whoa, gt has necrophilia?

I have problems with a lot of the arcadey racers. PGR4 is more about the graphic design than the actual racing and the cars feel too light, Burnout really needs to take out the slow-mo crashes, game would be 100x more fun w/out it. Sliding gets old fast in Ridge Racer, and Sega Rally feels like you're driving toy cars through vaseline and shit. I did like Motorstorm, though.
Forza 2 was cool because it's like you have hundreds of cars to test drive in your TV. It's a more laidback game.

That's one problem with GT. Even with all those really fast cars, you don't get many chances to even approach 200 MPH.
Also, I hate how you're almost always forced to compete against cars from the same group. When I'm playing solo, why not give me the option to set whatever opponents I want to race.

It's necro-porn, basically.
-
After falling asleep for the the first three games I learnt my lesson and didn't buy any more. Same happened with the Paper Mario games. I'm a slow learner it seems.
-
so you are a beaner?

Total distinguished mentally-challenged.
-
I've been loving GT5P... but you have to play it with a racing wheel. It's boring otherwise. Similar to how Guitar Hero or Dance Dance Revolution are boring if you play them with the dualshock (it can be done, but ruins the experience).

Truth.
Buying a wheel made it 100% better, and also breathed some life into GT4, a game I really didn't play too much of initially.
-
Good point about the wheel - I've never played a GT with a wheel. I always found PGR boring, but when I got PGR3 with the 360 wheel all of a sudden it was awesome.
Wheels seem to make lots of games better.
-
Daytona USA 2 > every other fucking racer out there, sim or not. :-*
-
The thing is, you can't just attempt to emulate reality and assume that such an approach makes for the best and most authentic racing experience. The shortcomings of the medium already costs you the experience of gravitational pull and general awareness, so racing game devs should really attempt to exaggerate other aspects in order to make up for these things that are lost in translation.

Does anybody even watch Arrested Development!? Come on!

Guy gets game he knows he won't like, doesn't like it. More at 11.
