Well, I guess I'll play some GT5:P 'cause I feel like I kinda have to.  I finally bought a ShockAxis yesterday so I'm probably going to go back and replay some older games for the hell of it, like Uncharted.

But this weekend means one thing and one thing only - NFL Draft.  2 days of staring at Mel Kiper and listening about the same 10 players over and over again.

It's got the longevity for me that TF2 doesn't. Well, at least until the next TF2 update.

EU: Rome needs a bit more time in the oven, I have it but will wait for the next patch before getting back to it. EU3+ Napoleon's Ambition + Magna Mundi Gold are making for a rocking grand strategy substitute if you decide to play as a major HRE player. Very cool.

Flat out awesome. I wouldn't expect very many people around here to play these kind of games, but if you do like quality wargaming and you didn't leap on this already, for god's sakes do so now. It's fantastic. Only bad note:  my wife is starting to get the dreaded "hey what is with you playing nazis in a game AGAIN" look.

Ouch @ paying in Euros as a yank for this one, but it's been well worth it. Can be excruciatingly evil with luck on the rolls and cards dealt, resulting in some serious profanity, but on other rounds I wind up gobbling four or five territories because of a lucky ambassador draw. Very fun PC game based on the Joan of Arc board game, and do note-there's a English demo now for people like me whose French is dreadful.

Yeah I heard Quake Wars wasnt too shabby, just a little more of the same, which is fine if you haven't played a lot of that recently. Ive toyed with the idea of picking it up but WOW and CoH was cheaper.

It's had suprising staying power for me. The teamwork, even on public servers, is very good, and it's more fast paced and less downtime than BF2 or BF2142. The vehicles and infantry balance is very good and the maps are fantastic.

Though I still keep BF2 installed for the mods, of course. :)

Yeah from all ive seen they took a more conservative approach to the title, which is good because it sounds like the gameplay is pretty polished thanks to that. Ill try and pick it up next payday. Ive been on the edge but ill give it a go.

There is a Quake Wars demo, MAF. You can mess around with some bots.

It's not bad looking for a MP game.  I posted some caps here before but they might be deleted now.

You can play an engineer in Quake Wars, they really rock and I know you loved playing them in BF1942!

Frag, where are some tips for TF2?  I like TF2 but I kinda suck.  At best, I get about 1-2 kills per death.

Sometimes the megatextures can be megablurry and some of the effects are just downright embarassing looking for a 2007 game, but overall it's a decent looking title. Runs well though, at least after you set a few critical console commands.

Frag, where are some tips for TF2?  I like TF2 but I kinda suck.  At best, I get about 1-2 kills per death.

First key is find 2-3 classes you are confortable with and really learn them in and out. For me, that's medic, heavy, and soldier. You'll almost never see me play anything but those. It's important to pick more than one class to learn, since you might not have a need on your team for another player of that class when you join.

Second, learn the maps and learn where the health and ammo is in addition to the objectives. It can dramatically increase your longevity until a medic runs by and sees you almost dead and heals you to full.

Third, stick together and move as pairs or in a group whenever possibe. Stuff dies faster and people will panic and try to run instead if there aren't other team members of theirs around. Sometimes this isn't possible, but it always helps to move in squads of two-four at least on most maps.

I mostly used soldier but I'll like to give heavy a try.  I just haven't used heavy much because it's more conspicuous when you suck.

My best strategy so far is to find high ping servers.   :P

Otherwise, PG4 and Metroid Prime 3 I'm trying to eliminate from my backlog.  And I really ought to play more of Dreamfall which I've only played an hour or two of.

Castlevania: DAWN OF SORROW - what an awesome little game. Yeah, it's MOTS of the worst kind but there's never enough Metroidvania. I'm 30% done, currently hunting Souls for upgrading weapons and hunting money for that Soul Eater Ring (it costs 300 000 gold, I have 40 000 now :(.

you shouldn't worry about that soul eater ring when you're just 30% in the game. you'll come across other stuff later that'll net you money faster

DoS is incredible, but I still prefer Aria. Easily my favorite metroidvania of the bunch

So yeah I ventured into the realm of Onimusha games. And so far it's pretty awesome. Cheesy, wacky storyline, weapon upgrading, WHIPS. Playing with Jacques brings out the castlevania feel.

I'll probably track down the first two games too

I played COD4 SP once, and that's it. Nice rollercoaster experience, IW really has the whole scripted experience thing down. I almost quit a few times though, because it felt like the game was putting unreasonable limitations on my character. If an unwashed bastard terrorist can perform cover maneuvers, then god damn it, my upper crust elite character should be able to at least match those techniques. At times, I felt more like an embedded reporter than anything.

The MP is hot though.

It's a shame that what's good about that piece of shit game begins and ends with Altair's animation. Ubishit sucks, and Assassin's Creed is the Killzone of this generation. And people who like it are a bunch of little Wollans.

I like it, you guys need to calm down.

I didn't know people were so divided on AC.

Like Yahtzee said, it's not horrific or amazing, it's just mediocre, and that's fine. It's a solid 7, which describes every single game Ubisoft has ever made. That developer rocks the 7/10 score like no other.

People who are like Wollan like it. Others don't. And a "7" would suggest that it's a competent game with some flaws, whereas Assassin's Creed is one long, repetitive, tedious flaw with one or two noteworthy highlights. The truth patrol labels it a 2/10, points awarded for a sexy assassin strut and nothing else.

PoP1 was atrocious in the final hour, and the linearity and puzzles got really tiresome. Never tried PoP3. SC3, Tom Clancy games add 2 points. Ubisoft tends to put more effort in to games that are funded by him.
