After getting my last big S1 armor (the stupid pants) I decided to fire up City of Heroes. So far its pretty fun, but only three of the servers have much of a population anymore and im not a fan of the controls. I am hoping there's a lot of solo content, otherwise ill be joining a superhero league. I guess they get bases tho which is neat. The character customization is pretty awesome. Here's some screens from my tank character. Ill post some screens of Science Man later on.

Ahh, Atlus City, home of a gajillion super heroes, but there's still crime a block away!

Just another Super Hero looking for work!

Yeah that's right...im awesome.

Super Heroes dont jaywalk, but with crosswalk signs like these, how does anyone cross the street?!

How do the controls suck? What's bad about them in comparison to other MMOs.
-
lol
sweet
-
What are your powers?
-
TVC: I dunno default controls just dont seem as tight, I need to mess with them a bit. Its probably mostly my fault. The character in the pics has supermanish powers but powers open up as you level up and I havent played the game much, but ive seen some pretty awesome characters floating around.
-
Yeah, taking to the skies. Got hover, which is SLOW Fly, but thats ok, it makes me look awesome.

Looks pretty cool. Did you join a team?
-
So does this get the MAF thumbs up?
-
its a b- but im enjoying it
doesnt begin to compete with wow tho
-
Got my hero to level 7! Woo. Its going to be hard splitting time between this and WoW.
-
The game is great til around level 20 then it's such a chore that it's not even funny.
-
Honestly, I've subscribed about twice. I have fun for a week and then it gets repetitive.
They need a damn sequel.
-
Mupepe: Oh I know, I see all the flaws, but its not WoW. I like WoW and ill continue to dump hours into it, but its nice to have a WoW-lite.
-
do you know what the policy is on restoring old characters or switching servers? i'm jonesing to go back for a month or so.
-
it is fun but yeah around 16-20 it gets to be an IMPOSSIBLE grind
-
The mobs in quest zones seem to give more exp than grinding random crimes anyway.
WoW is neat n all, but i've been playing it off and on for going on 4 years :/ I need an off-MMORPG
-
I just tried out the trial for this game and found out that if you buy either City of Heroes or City of Villains, you get both. I went and ordered City of Villains off of Amazon since its only $5. So far I'm actually enjoying it. I made it to level 8 but had to stop because of the daily server maintenance or whatever. I made an army man superhero who has a machine gun. I'm probably the most boring superhero ever.
-
Like others have said, once you get around 16-20 the amount of experience you need to level up is ri-cock-ulous, it's such a grind.
I do remember accidentally wandering into a high-level area that connects like right to a low-level one, immediately dying, then being sent to a hospital in a high-level area surrounded entirely by other ones. I had to run (didn't even have the "run fast" power) around the edges of at least three zones to get back. Swam across a bay for about 10 minutes just trying to avoid level 60 hoodlums.
That and I hated how around that time they start giving you missions which force you to form parties. There's absolutely no way to solo, because for the next dozen or so missions you've got to be running around with some jackasses turning off bombs simultaneously.
-
Yeah, I enjoyed CoH for a while then went back for CoV. Major problems, like others have said, are that it becomes impossible to solo, and you have to find a group to level, and that it takes forever to level. Otherwise, it was generally fun. The travel superpowers were always a blast to use (Super Speed :hyper), the character customization is fantastic, and the gameplay isn't terrible, even if it's just typical MMO stuff. I sort of miss Beck Lightning, my electric guy.

MOST BORING SUPERHERO EVERRRRRR! But I love him. :D
-
I made a mobster and used to play alot before CoV came out.
I usually buy one bad MMO a year. Four years ago it was CoH, then WoW, then Vanguard, then LOTRO, than Pirates of the Burning Sea.
In funness:
Wow>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>CoH>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Lotro>>>PotBS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Vanguard
I wish PotBS turend out good.

The reemergence of this thread makes me curious about DC Online.
Yeah, i know, the graphics look like shit, but it doesn't look any better or worse than CoH. I wonder if they improved the format?
-
DC Online has some things going for it, like what seems to be a good combat system for an MMO and things like that, but in terms of general style, City of Heroes is better. The transition from Jim Lee's (:bow2) art style into 3D was poor, but I think it still looks really interesting.

Character Bio: "Born a blatant rip-off of another superhero, Wolvetard has devoted his life to overcoming his mental disability by battling evil."
