Title: It's Tuesday, what 10 year old PC RPG's did you buy at Goodwill?

Score for me. I played a little bit of Arcanum, it's Vista-compatible at least, and a fan patch was just released for it literally a week ago, so that's pretty cool. It's supposed to be pretty buggy (Troika  :'( ) but hey, Steampunk RPG!

Descent to Undermountain is DOS-based though, so no Vista compatibility there. I'll try running it in DOSBox later.

Goodwill also had Tex Murphy's Pandora Directive, which I really wanted but they only had Discs 4 -6, lol.  :(

Arcanum was OK but I didn't spend much time on it.  I was way more into the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale games.

I heard Descent to Undermountain was terrible though.  Did you every play Ultima Underworld 1 or 2?  They were pretty damn good, especially the sequel.

Yeah, I've played Ultima Underworld 1 & 2, those were great. Now that I've bought Underworld, I've read some pretty negative stuff about it online, but oh well, it's no big loss.

Arcanum is one of those games you just have to stick with-there is a really good game there if you're willing to be a bit patient and let the game find its footing (it does not start well IMO). Just make sure to patch up to 1.0.7.4 first.

You do that with most games though.

I guess a game is pretty good if it can pass the 1HR MAF test.

1 hour was just character creation!

One of my ex's loved the hell out of Arcanum and obscure PC RPGs, I remember the first night I hung out with her she showed me Divine Divinity or something like that.

Geez, Descent to Undermountain got like 2/10 reviews. It is truly terrible. Worst D&D game ever. I played it for 20 minutes back in the day. The graphics were some of the ugliest 3D I have ever seen.

You should have got Wizards & Warriors instead.

I wish they'd had Wizards & Warriors or some of the Realms of Arkania games instead. I've always wanted to play those.

i was driving around looking for ANYTHING near my work place and i found a salvation army and went in and took a quick look but didn't see anything.

in other news, working in the suburbs fucking sucks so much ass.  there is NOTHING around us except for resturautns and industrial parks for tech companies.

it's everything i hate about the suburbs.  horrible lay out, horrible traffic and distinguished mentally-challenged fellow drivers, nothing of interest and now, my job

Would that be your number one reason for recommending that people not move to Orange County?

i know to not move to orange county because of the brave years of social works under the SST record label.

"there HAS to be a reason these guys tour so much"

Ehh, beats being surrounded by and friends with people who think Chili's is haute cuisine.

Give me hole-in-the-wall ethnic joints any day of the week.
