Title: On holding the Gamecube controller for the first time in a while:
Post by: TVC15 on May 02, 2008, 07:48:43 PM
What the fuck was Nintendo thinking?  The shape is reminiscent of one of the fleshpod controllers from eXistenZ.

Gamecube controller was pretty similar to the Dreamcast controller at the time,so it was quality. Having a C-Stick instead of buttons was genius.

Shitty controller scheme, how are you supposed to memorize shit? Use the yellow doodad and press it up while holding that Right Trigger. FUCK

The GameCube controller was perfect for everything except 2D fighting games, but who gives a crap about those.

The handles do feel odd after holding a 360 pad or S pad for a while, but I thought it was good pad.  Digital buttons placed nice and close together, good analog triggers, and the 8-sided thing around the analog sticks.  I liked the button layout too.

Not good in every way, but some bits were very good.

One of my least favorite controllers ever.

1. Microscopic d-pad.
2. Squishy as dog poo "analogue" shoulder buttons.
3. lol Z-button. lol

It feels like it was designed for clinically distinguished mentally-challenged children who happened to be blind as well.

The GameCube controller was perfect for everything except 2D fighting games, but who gives a crap about those.

:wstupid

Because it's not really a controller unless you can accidentally kill someone with it.

I don't know man, I really liked the feel of that controller. The buttons, on the other hand...

Probably my most hated. I don't have a problem with its size (amazingly). I am just not a fan of the face-button placement.

The layout of the face buttons on the duke is my biggest problem with it as well.

I like the layout. With SNES style controllers the rightmost button is always a bit awkward to reach for.

I like the Cube controller too.

What the hell kind of crap are some of you talking? The GC controller fits in your hands like a fucking glove. I'll admit the layout they give most VC games for it is shit, though.

It sucks ass.  It is as if they took the PS2 controller design and asked a group of 6th grade speds to redesign it.

The controller was pretty much designed for only Nintendo games.  The same went for N64 and Wii but there at least was the option of using their controllers in a different way if the developer so chose.  With the GC, there is no option.  As a result, fighting games were unplayable on it and is probably why 2D games were pretty much a no show on the system.

It isn't as god awful as the Duke but luckily, Microsoft got their shit together and released a much better controller.  Nintendo just trudged along, only acting dumber as the Game Cube went on (GBA connectivity instead of online)
