Eric P sent me Peep Show and I started watching Season 1.
It's like the Britcom for people who think The Office is too cheesy and upbeat.
The characters are impossibly unlikeable.
-
just wait.
just.
wait.
(mwhahahahahaha)
in other britcom news, i have started watching In the Thick of It, which follows cabinet ministers. It's funny but i feel that a lack of specific uk gov't knowledge forestalls a bit of my enjoyment.
i have also started to watch Gavin and Stacey, which won some awards (which is how i heard of it). The production values are ace, but the content...well it's very...safe i guess. Though admittedly i've only gotten 2 out of 6 episodes in.
the latest season just started but thanks to a package filled with kungfu films, i haven't had a chance to watch it
-
yeah, I'm sure it gets much worse than where I am (halfway through season 1)
but it's already excrutiating to watch Mitchell/Webb interact with others, esp. women.
Wow just wow.
I love how Britcoms are so short - it's very tempting to try to polish off the whole thing this weekend. I can do the first two seasons without blinking, at least.
-
it allows them to remain focused. and in most cases is a good thing
-
mmm black books. Just hearing the name of the show makes me want to watch the first season ep The Blackout.
-
I've seen Black Books, yeah
-
black books, while good, didn't really maintain its quality throughout the show's lifespan. the third season is certainly the weakest, while i feel that the first season is the best.

Same. The first season is the only one Graham Linehan did. He's why I ended up trying Father Ted, and it blessedly had the same sort of absurd feel as the first season of Black Books.
-
but my god Father Ted is excellent from start to finish.
it is nearly as perfect a comedy can get. though having catholic roots certainly didn't hurt my enjoyment of it at all.
-
father ted is one of the few shows i can watch over and over and over, the only other one is blackadder seasons 2-4
-
i also add 30 rock to that list.
-
I am waiting til 30 Rock season 2 is done to watch it -_-
just finished 1.4 - cooking dinner now (STEAKS), then'll finish up S1
-
i've rewatched the I'm Alan Partridge series a few times too - also awesome.
and Brass Eye/The Day Today never get old.
Father Ted can never be ruined - it's 3 series of perfect.
i couldn't get into alan partridge nor could i get into saxondale. oh man i couldn't get into saxondale.
-
yeah i think i started with the last series and reading wiki entries gave me the idea that i was really going about it the wrong way, but then there were YEARS of the show in various incarnations to catch up on.
OH!
I snagged That Mitchell and Webb Sound Radio series. ZOMFG. Too Funny.
-
I love Partridge! ...a-ha
-
^^^
Thanks for reminding me about their radio show. i've had it downloaded for a while but haven't listened to it.
First episode of series five is on The Pirate Bay. :)

finished S1
never before has a show so clearly delineated the depression and self-loathing driving most sexual encounters
-
My favorite episode from Peep Show was "The Bad Thing."

mwhahahahahahahaha
just wait
-
season five so far is so very painful
-
I finished S2 last week ... gonna try to polish off S3 this evening, I think
-
yay
-
yay
it's that, or get ready for my trip
and who can pack for a Tuesday morning shuttle on Saturday? come on
-
i know someone who packs a week before she goes anywhere
fully packs
everything.
a week before she goes anywhere
she's like....mengele on vacation
-
in my defense (?) my Monday is totally shot, but, uh
a full day of tomorrow should be sufficient, right???
okay time to Peep my Show on
-
yeah should be fine.
-
whyyy do I waaaatch this shoooooow
every season the relationships get somehow even more awkward
-
*cough*
yes
about that.
-
god, 3.1 was probably the most depressing episode yet
I am starting to wonder if this show can even be classified as a "comedy"

tragedy is when it happens to me
comedy is when it happens to you
-
but the first-person perspective of Peep Show means it is happening...to me
-
i usually have to pause the episode several times
they're masters at their craft

poor Sophie, whose dating life is so without prospects she continues to endure Mark -_-
