I was driving through this town yesterday with a population of 12 and I saw an abandoned gas station. I got out just to look around and the gas pumps said 58 cents! I couldn't believe it. When was the last time gasoline was that cheap?
-
Warn whiteman about the next time you're in an abandoned gas station, so he can make sure to take that day off and order the Dexter tool kit off of ebay.
-
I'm 32 and remember paying 79 cents a gallon in a Georgia price war in 1995 or so. I am sure I've paid lower, but not by much. I've never bought gas at 58 cents a gallon.
-
In 1997, I filled up for 89 cents in Ohio (and we were always 10 cents more expensive than anywhere else in the midwest because of our 10% ethanol blend).
-
In 2001 when I started driving, people were bitching about $1.29 a gallon. There were a few times when it would dip down to under a dollar but not since 2002.
-
i think after katrina they realized that we'll do whatever they say
-
Most Americans are too apathetic to do little else than bitch. They will pay the higher prices and whine a little more.
A lot of the measures to cut the usage of gasoline so far have been half assed at best. Then you got those useless MySpace spam messages saying "iF U dNt UsE gAs tOm, iT wILl gO DwN, u SavE $$$", which of course, are totally useless. Then people want to reduce the gas tax, which is fine if you want shitty roads. With Government's lips wrapped firmly around the cock of Big Oil, we won't be seeing a solution to this for a long, long time.

Yeah. There really isn't a ceiling (outside of like $20 a gallon) on what they can charge for gas and what we'll pay. At least not initially.
I always thought that my ceiling would be when it's cheaper to take public transport than it does to take my car.
but doing some research, i would have to wake up @ 5:30 AM and then I'd arrive 5 min before I have to be at work.
It's currently costing me $12 more to per week drive than it would to take public transportation.
but fuck, the thought of spending 4 hours on buses and trains A DAY is just horrible to contemplate
-
Yeah, I think the days of cheap gasoline are over. $2.00 a gallon would be amazing, but we will never get to that level again.
-
I remember gas being 89 cents per gallon, but I wasn't driving yet. I love the smell of gasoline so I used to pump it for my mom.
Gas was like $1.19 a gallon when I started driving in the summer of 2002.
-
On my 16th birthday in 1999 it was 99 cents a gallon. Oh how those times have changed.
-
I don't think I paid attention to gas prices until I started driving in 1996. The lowest I remember was somewhere around 85 cents/gallon.
-
I love the smell of gasoline so I used to pump it for my mom.
That answers so many unanswered questions.

It's only 9$ a gallon here in the EU :-\
we only did that to your continent to make it too expensive for germany to go buck wild again
-
my first real car ownership was in Japan, where gas is like $7-8 / gallon, so the prices here aren't fazing me at all
