I'm well on my way to my 3rd RROD in less than 2 years. This one isn't even 6 months old and I can't play it for more than 20 minutes without a DRE. Fuck.
-
out of curiosity, what's your dvd drive model?

-
Bought mine last august, only issues so far are the occasional 'disc read error' messages
Year of first 360 continues.
-
Bought one at launch, it killed itself in Spring of '06. Got another one, which lasted for somewhere around 8 months before it, too, killed itself. Now waiting patiently for a serious redesign.
-
altogetherandrews?
-
Same reason I refuse to buy one for now. I don't know anyone who has a 360 and not have the console commit seppuku.
Perhaps the new Blu-ray model will have the RRoD sorted?

I really hope so. I miss being an Xbot. And Crackdown, I really miss Crackdown.

Heh. I've told this story before, eh?

jaspers should be out soon, they have the smaller/cooler fab (65nm?) gpu
-
so is my Falcon at risk :/
-
Are they going to mark them or something? Last time I got the urge to buy a new 360, I found myself scouring the store for specific serial numbers, and of course subsequently getting the store security clowns to hover a couple of aisles over.

checking the power supply watt usage is the easiest way, Jasper units with 65nm gpu should get a new PSU or maybe not.
another way to tell is through holiday bundles.

nah, probably not. mine has been rock solid, and is eerily quiet, to boot. the only issue with the falcons are the shitty dvd drives in a few of 'em.
-
hopefully all these problems will be a thing of the past in 2009 when i "jump in" to kill blackies a la RE5 :bow

Broken 360s just means more jobs in the Mexican plant that makes them. Viva Mexico!
-
I've been considering getting a 360 this summer, I thought the Falcon Xboxes were safe. :(
-
My first box lasted Aug 06 - Oct 07? Or something, that ws when I became a partial sonytard. Then I realised PS3s suck, and my replacement box came back. I've been using that one since... no issues with it so far.
-
No issues at all. *crosses fingers* I have a zephyr elite unit.
-
On my 3rd one. I put a fan behind it and it's running strong.
-
No RROD since I got it with Dead Rising.
I always put it on top of a surface - desk, dresser, entertainment center. No enclosure at all.
-
on my 3rd since launch, don't have a warranty on this one, it's an elite, had it since last august with no problems
-
only one RROD with a Core that I immediately returned to Best Buy for a refund
my launch 360 is still going strong but I gave it away to someone else long ago
my current Falcon works real well, I got it for HDMI and the increased reliability, it's modded and the discs spin at 8x, making the unit pretty tolerable as far as DVD-ROM whining goes, without affecting the load times whatsoever... even if those high-pitched fans are still a bit over the top I can now play a quiet game without being distracted by an hair dryer whining in the background
-
My third one has been going good for nearly a year I think it is. I wish it would just die so I can send it in and get the heatsink. Knowing my luck it'll RROD just after the three years is up.
First one lasted 8 months and second one lasted 4 hours.
-
Still on my first one (bought it Nov 06), I have it standing vertically atop my glass TV stand, next to my TV... I got a lot of DRE's in Lost Odyssey so I assume my drive ain't the best.
-
My first 360 lasted about 6 months, RROD'ed. Got a replacement back that lasted about 3 or 4 months. Ended up selling the replacement I got back.
Then I got a Zephyr HDMI unit in August 2007, it died I think in Feb. 08. Got my replacement back like a month a half ago and it's going good.
The only game I ever got DRE's with was Dead Rising with my first unit.

2nd biggest thing keeping me from buying a 360 (first is price).
-
I've had one RROD, lasted Feb 06 - Feb 07. They sent me back a defective unit. Retuned that and the unit I got back I've been using since. Mar 07 was around the time they changed the cooling. God knows why it took them so long. I have no idea though if the unit I got back has the new cooling or not. One thing I did was seperate the power brick from the console so each is sitting in different components of my entertainment center. The heat given off by the power brick definitely has an effect on the console if it's too close.
