Title: E3 does not exist
Post by: Howard Alan Treesong on May 08, 2008, 06:17:26 PM
I just wanted to make sure everyone at EB is clear on this. A lot of posters at GAF seem to be under the misunderstanding that E3 is still happening. It's not. There is no E3.

Thanks,
S.P.

Really? I know some people who got invited though. Was this a recent (or yet to come) announcement?

any single company's gamers' day > E3
any random issue of EGM > E3
any exclusive Game Informer cover story > E3

E3 is completely, utterly dead as a forum for announcements and hype.

I still don't get what you are trying to say. Is E3 the event (whether it be the media only one, or the omg forum meetup teehee version) dead and done, or are you just saying it will never amount to what it was in the past?

It's still "happening," but it's not E3 anymore. It's some small, unrelated event that will be half-heartedly supported by 30% of the industry.

Anyone "waiting for E3" for announcements might as well "wait for August 15" - it makes as much sense.

Old news Patel. Every sane gamer knew that. Every Evilborian at least.

I figured most posters at Evilbore, The Thinking Gamer's ForumTM, already knew that.

But I wanted to make sure there was no possibility of confusion.

Is it "Evilborians" or "Evilboreans"?

"Evilboreans," as in, "the most villainous zone in Northrend is the evil Borean Tundra."

I thought it was "Evilboreans," as in, "those who bore through things, using the power of Evil."

Or perhaps, "Those who bore you to death, using the power of Evil."

Didn't people just announce a bunch of shit last year whether they had a presence at the actual conference or not? Ultimately E3 will just evolve into 'span of May where everyone announces crap', which is kind of what it's always been.

I used to be of the opinion that E3 became way too bloated in recent years, but all the huge lines, booth babes, glitz and shit was actually what made E3 what it was. It's a shame, really.  :'(

In all honesty, E3 will still have SOME announcements.

But no, it's not really going to be a big deal like it used to be. The days of broken F5 keys are over, folks.

What about the conferences?  The Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo pre-show conferences.  Those are when the megatons are dropped.  The conferences are the only good thing about E3 anyway.

They're not big conferences anymore.  The manufacturers just use the time to talk about sales numbers to vendors nowadays.

MS, Sony, and Nintendo all hold independent "gamers' day" events for journos now. E3 is dead. There will be no megatons.

Blizzard won't be there, therefore it doesn't exist in my mind. all i'm interested in is StarCraft 2 and Lich King

Pretty much.

E3 this year: maybe ONE announcement of note rather than the ten or eleven we are used to.
