Every fucking 20 seconds, throughout a 3 hour movie, there is a 10 second shot of a random anima / insect / tree / piece of grass.
Then you get them whispering rhetorical questions to themselves with cuts to other pointless flashbacks or whatever.
"What is this? Who are we?"
What a pretentious piece of shit.

i've never seen it, but this thread has made me think about what is the worst war movie I've ever seen. Damn I'm going to have to think about this.
-
TVC will kill me and rape the corpse if I admit the first film that came to mind
-
Tears of the Sun is the worst war movie I've ever seen. Monica Bellucci's cleavage was the only positive aspect about it.

What are you thinking of? I dun like too many war movies. If it's FMJ, I don't have a very high opinion of that movie, either.
-
I've never seen The Thin Red Line. All I know is that if you say you don't like it, there's a small contingent of people who get off on Terrence Malick and will jump all over your ass and accuse you of "just not getting it." So apparently there's at least some people that like it, whereas I find it hard to believe there's anyone who could like Tears of the Sun.

I've only seen The New World, which was great. This probably is too.

Count me in as one of the people who liked The Thin Red Line.
The movies is good, and I am much too tired right now to argue as to why.
Maybe you would like Starship Troopers?
-
nope nope - I have Platoon on DVD, and Apocalypse Now is one of my favorite movies

APOCALYPSE NOW

I'll go with this. Well, Bruce was a positive too...but the movie was godawful.

Just spill it, dude!

Lol, wow.
You make a statement, bail out of backing it up, then try to discredit my taste?
This isn't GAF dude...I don't have to back up shit.
I like the movie. You don't.
I liked Starship Troopers too (giant insects ftw).

That doesn't even make sense.

Bad war movies >>> great horror movies (after 2000).
-
i'd like to take the time to state that war movies really don't do much for me.
black hawk down, saving private ryan, none of that really appeals to me
stuff like The Story of GI Joe, Come and See, and Grave of the Fireflies which deals with war in an ancillary fashion instead of the fetishisation of the armed forces interests me far more.
-
The Story of GI Joe is a fantastic movie. For a film released in 1945 before the war actually ended, it is surprisingly frank and adult. One of Robert Mitchum's best performances, and if you only know Burgess Meredith through the Rocky movies and the 60s Batman TV show, you need to see what a great actor he really was (also check out Of Mice and Men).
William Goldman wrote an article in Premiere magazine pretty much shitting all over Saving Private Ryan when it came out (it's collected in his book The Big Picture), and I agree with everything he said, but I still think the battle scenes are fuck awesome. Band of Brothers turned out to be everything SPR wanted to be - can't wait for that to hit Blu Ray this year (so goes the rumor).
If you haven't seen it, They Were Expendable is another good war flick filmed during the war which takes a pretty realistic approach for the time.
-
i've seen it but it was so long ago.

Who doesn't like Starship Troopers?

If any of you fucks think the worst war movie is Apocalypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, or Patton, I will fly out and kick your fucking asses, Jay and Silent Bob style.
I'd say Stop/Loss was one of the worst war movies I've seen. A female friend dragged me to the dollar theater to see it. I went with her because she offered to pay my dollar ticket. There was nothing in that film that was good about it. It was basically throwing the latest Hollywood eye candy in a movie with a hackneyed, broken anti-war plot. It was so vile, I almost became a raging Republican because of how shitty it was.

My grandpa was on Guadalcanal. :american
-
Band of Brothers :bow
-
Wilco just hates Apocalypse Now because it didn't have enough Jews.

It was so-so. I didn't think it was bad, but it certainly wasn't great either.
