Title: Anyone use Google Desktop?
Post by: AdmiralViscen on May 09, 2008, 12:47:57 AM
I don't have Vista, but my gf does and I really like the sidebar - scratchpad in particular. I keep my daily list of things to do in an open AIM window to no one (tabbed browsing with DeadAIM) but that's easily lost and not saved.

Good Desktop seems interesting but I don't really need the desktop search and I don't know if I want Google snooping around that closely in my shit. But then the weather and email alert shit is pretty nifty too.

Anyone have a suggestion?

We use it here at work purely for the search function.  I use the double-ctrl thing a lot to bring up the search window.  I don't use any of the other functions, sorry.

I don't use Google desktop, but I just wanted to share in the love for DeadAim and their tabbed messages. :)

Yeah, I use it. I wish I could have both the Google and Vista sidebars going simultaneously. I got it to happen once, but I can't get it to do it again. It wasn't supposed to happen that one time. :(

use it and love it. scratch pad is handy. search is awesome. plus the various widgets like Google earth are nice. I often minimize it to just the search window though.

For a lot of stuff, i use a text file on the desktop. i have Vista but don't like the Sidebar -- i prefer Yahoo! Widget Engine which has a number of sticky note widgets. i love GDS but it's overkill if all you need is a sticky note app. You might wanna try one of these freeware apps:

So you GD users don't see a performance hit? I don't think I would either.
