I'm an Nfag of the highest calibur, but I'm just going to say it. EA has out-nintendo'ed Nintendo. That's a hard thing for me to say, but trying to remember it's developed by remenants of the former Westwood Studios helps some. Boom Blox is exactly the kind of game Nintendo's been trying to do on the Wii with Wii Sports and Wii Play, the "pick up and play, easy to get into for gamers and non-gamers alike, uses the Wiimote in a way that's natural and immerses you into the game, lots of fun to play with your friends, family, pets, etc, possibly while intoxicated" and this game totally nails it. Fuck Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart, even fuck GTA4 too just because, Boom Blox is where it's at.

I played 2-player co-op mode for only about 30 minutes today, but it rocked my face. You may be thinking "WTF, it's just Jenga." Yeah, it's just Jenga except 10000000X better, and you don't have to restack it by hand every time it falls over. Sure, the graphics are N64-looking, but the physics are great, and that's really what matters in this game. There's a huge variety of levels and stage types, both single-player and multiplayer, and the single-player is fun in it's own right, but the multiplayer is just pure fun. It's like when you're playing Rock Band, and everyone's just goofing around and laughing and having a good time. It's a pure kind of fun. It's like "OMG, you're doing it wrong! The whole thing is falling!" and you're like "Shut up, I've got it, I know what I'm doing here." "Hold on, move that one over a little to the left." "No, that'll shift the whole thing! We need to get this one out of the way." "Oh crap no, it's starting to fall, just hurry and grab the one of the left!" "NOOOOOOOOO...oh wait, it settled. Phew. I think we're good. That right side is looking bad though, I think you need to get this one in the middle next." And so on. And I only played it 2-players, I can only imagine what it's like with four people, which is something I intend to find out this weekend. It should be crazy.

I'll have more as the story develops.

See, already you prove you don't understand this game. It isn't a "OMG, I gotta play this for 8 hours straight this weekend to get to the ennnndddd!" game, this is a "Play for an hour or two with friends every once in a while for months or years" kind of game. And yes, that's right. You do need friends. I don't think this game is going to work out for you, demi.  :(

Yes, because you will just have the urge to play Boom Blox down the road. You sound more and more ridiculous with each post - the sorrow of a nintard.

Wait, I thought this wasn't Jenga lol

The basic ideas are similar, I mean both games have towers of blocks and involve you pulling blocks out of the tower without knocking the whole tower over, but you have different sizes and shapes of blocks and towers, sometimes instead of grabbing blocks you're throwing baseballs or bowling balls at the blocks to try to knock down a certain part. There's a lot to it.

Online? Match making?  Leaderboards?

No.

Quote
co-op?

Yes.

Quote
60FPS? Solid 30FPS?

I don't really have an eye for framerate, but it looked smooth to me. It's probably 60fps, the graphics are awful so it's not like it's pushing the Wii to the limits or anything.

Quote
Time Trials?

Not that I know of, but I still haven't delved into everything.

When did xbots gets so bitter and opposed to fun?  I'm sorry I even brought it up now. Sorry it doesn't have enough bloom lightning and exit wounds for you fegs. Sorry that I expected you fuckheads to take a break from lawling at Sony and GTA4 for being shitty or at Borys for buying PC games or whatever to actually play a game.  :-\

If I was so desperate, I'd just stroke it to sales figures, as is my right as a Nintendo fan. But I haven't even finished Twilight Princess or Metroid Prime 3 yet, and I've still got Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros Brawl sitting around if I want to get my multiplayer on. Just thought maybe you knobgobblers might like to know about some actual quality game that's been released since it's not like I can expect any of you to actually know what's going on on the Wii, but clearly you're too busy jerking each other off. So have fun with that, I'm going to go play it some more.

BTW, I played two hours worth of 4-players this afternoon. Very nice. This game will have long shelf life for connoisseurs of fun.

Don't listen to demi, he doesn't even play games except maybe for trolling purposes. Just look at the reviews:

Quote
I've been waiting to say something like this for a year and a half: If this is the future of casual gaming, motion controls, and Wii, count me in. Boom Blox may not be the best Wii game, depending on your proclivities, but it's definitely the best use of the Wii yet. It's immensely accessible, wonderfully tactile, and stands as one of the best treatments of gaming in a 3D space.

A+

Just like I was saying in my first post, this is a prime usage of the Wii, the kind of game the Wii was made for. Yeah, I was being a little sensational, but I mean it's not like block stacking/unstacking games are going to sell themselves, I was just trying to get everyone's attention. Mock it all you like, but this is a really, really good game.

Played another two hours of 4-player competitive mode today, and about an hour of single-player. Both fun, but co-op is really where it's at. Co-op's only two players unfortunately, but if you're playing on a mode where you take turns, like dissembling towers, you can just pass a Wiimote around to however many people you've got.

I watched the tutorial video on building your own levels, and the level editor looks really easy to use. I'm going to try making something awesome tomorrow, and maybe I'll wiimail it to my REAL friends when I get done.

for a 50 dollar, EA published game, the visuals and presentation are painfully unpolished.  Paradoxically, its one of the very few Wii games that isn't (further) uglied up by atrocious jaggies.  But whining about graphics on a dang puzzler is kinda futile, I might as well complain about how every new 2D shooter has terrible art or how FPS's now outnumber the earths biodiversity.  There's just some things you have to accept as being common and admit to yourself that those are the prices you must pay for partaking in that particular genre.

Having got that long and unnecessary preface out of the way, I will say that Boom Blox is indeed all that, and the bag of chips.  There's a metric ton of pretty good single player content, and the co-op and competitive multiplayer is so very wonderful.  Yes wonderful.  Its easily the best multiplayer Wii game I own and has been the source of some very fun times with my casual-gamer-minded gf.

Boom Blox might not look it, but it packs a heck of a value into its modest appearance.  As one of the few really good Wii games that actually uses the strengths of the Wii, it should be on every bodies shortlist of worthwhile games for that game-poor system.

Against my better judgement and being desperate to find SOMETHING other than rom dumps to play on my Wii I picked this up.

To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. Actually disappointed is too strong a word. Apathetic is better. This could rank as one of the most boring games I've ever played. Put your pointer on a block, flick the controller forward or pull it back. WOW A+

It's not even a my first puzzle game, because my first puzzle game would require some puzzle elements. This is just picking a spot and flinging the controller. Do it in less flicks to get a better score. The rudimentary "blocky" animals you choose as your avatar should appeal to closet furries everywhere too.

To charge full price for this is laughable, it should be a Wii Ware game at best. The most polite thing I can say about it is that it's a nice tech demo for their physics engine. I can't believe I unpacked my Wii for this
