Title: They finally made up a religion I can get behind
Post by: TVC15 on May 12, 2008, 10:25:24 PM
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/1925338/The-church-is-ailing---send-for-Dr-Who.html

Quote
The Tardis was considered to represent a Church by being an ordinary object that points to something higher while the Doctor was likened to Christ in his willingness to sacrifice himself for others.

The Rev Andrew Myers, vicar at St Aidan’s in Leeds, attended the course and said that he would use Doctor Who in future sermons.

“We saw the Doctor persuaded to save a family of Pompeians in one of the most recent episodes, surely a reference to Genesis and Abraham’s bargaining with God over the fate of Sodom and Gomorrah,” he said.

"There are many themes relevant to spirituality, such as the Daleks as supreme embodiments of moral evil. Even the more cynical have been convinced that this immensely successful series provides a wonderful toolkit."

The first "hint" spoilers for The Unicorn and the Wasp are out.  Review should be out later today or tomorrow.  In line with Doctor Who spoiler tradition, 3 of the below things will be false:

Donna tries to blend into the time period by saying "spiffing" and "chin chin".

There are spinning newspapers.

Fans of Cluedo will love the pre-credits sequence.

Agatha Christie makes a sexual advance towards Donna, but is loudly knocked back.

An arrow-armed Doctor is seen in flashback in Hercule Poirot's old hunting ground.

The Doctor tries to down a jar of anchovies.

Part of a Cybus Cyberman turns up in the episode.

Donna thinks that 'Murder On The Orient Express' is a song by Sophie Ellis Bextor.

There is an explicit reference to the events of 'The Unquiet Dead'.

Donna tells Agatha Christie that her plot twists are nothing compared to the Jeremy Kyle Show.

The Doctor disappoints Donna by telling her that Enid Blyton's Noddy is not real.

Chief Inspector Smith from Scotland Yard makes an appearance.

It's ironic that Richard Fucking Dawkins is guest-starring on Doctor Who and now it's a basis for Christian sermons.

If this were a US show, that would be the fake rumor, obviously.  What with this being RTD, who knows.  Let's not forget the Torchwood sex gas episode.  Or Gay Spike.  Or Gay Captain Jack.  Or Gay Everyone Else on Torchwood.  Also, in The Shakespeare Code--written by the author of the Unicorn and the Wasp--Shakespeare hits on a dude, making the Doctor say "57 academics just punched the air."

Don't get me wrong, Shakespeare wasn't portrayed as gay.  He was more pansexual than anything.

Hrmmm. I do like the idea of Jovi-ism.

Our beliefs. Worship The Jovi, preach his gospels and sing it on high!

Our creed:
WE LIVE ON A PRAYER, AND ARE WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE. WE BLAZE W/ GLORY AND LIVE LIFE TO FULLEST. WE DO IT SLEEPING ON BEDS OF ROSES W/ A LOADED SIX STRING ON OUR BACKS.

The Symbol of The First Church of Jon Bon Jovi.

Everyone is welcome to join. FA and I subscribe to this religion. A few others are considering this to be the one and only true source of wisdom. Amen to that!

Amen, Lay your hands on me Jovi!

"Once I was afraid of love, But when its your brother, Those things change, cause love is just another word, For trust. So hear me when I say. Never say die."
- So sayeth THE JOVI

"Jovi" is Jesus in Aramaic texts.  The literal Hebrew translation of "Bon" is "lord".  Even more amazingly, the word "Bongiovi" eventually became what we now call the "bible".  Jon Bon Jovi is equal parts man, messiah, message, machismo, meat-eater, and mother-maker.  There is no equal; there is no other.

The resurrection took place on March 2, 1962.  Although many criticize his music, there is a gospel to be heard in each of his songs.  His famous song, "Living on a Prayer" really says it all.

That is amazing. It has always gave me goosebumps. :bow

A list of our Saints.

St. Richie Sambora, St. David Bryan, St. Tico Torres, & St. Hugh McDonald.

They are also the apostles.

"Shot through the heart and you're to blame. Darling you gave love, a bad name". - So sayeth THE JOVI.
