Title: Semester Grades
Post by: FatalT on May 13, 2008, 12:11:24 PM
Alright bitches, its near the end of the semester and you should be getting your grades. POST EM!

I'm pretty pissed off about my grades but there's nothing I can do about them now. I'm going to have to re-take the Accounting class because its actually required for business majors. All the other classes were actually electives, so it's really disappointing that I did pretty badly in them. I'm actually close to being put on academic probation (0.028 points away from it) so I really need to step up my game and study/read my books. I feel like with this semester, I basically threw away money that I won't get back.

Accounting 281: F
History 550: C+
Sociology 101: D+
Religion 201: C-

GPA: 2.027

Title: Re: Semester Grades
Post by: FatalT on May 13, 2008, 12:27:15 PM
Yes, I went to class. I'm not sure why I made a D in sociology, actually. I'm really not sure why I made poor grades in any of my classes. I did very well on every classes' quizzes. My problem was with exams, where I made from a low D to a C on most of them. The quiz grades should have balanced out the exam grades, but obviously didn't. My Accounting professor was horrible and I'm trying to ask a friend about what grade she made in the class.

Impressive. I really don't want to stick with accounting though because I don't enjoy it at all. I'll possibly change my major to a general business degree. I'm sure you actually enjoy accounting though.

Not really, but I'd probably be unhappy with whatever I chose and this pays pretty well so I don't really mind.

Where'd you get your accounting degree, and what GPA did you have? Also what type of job do you have now and how much do you get paid? You don't have to name the company.

I ask because I'm an accounting major

my grades...

My piece of shit school won't let me connect to its website from my room so I can't check. I got an A in Juveniles in the Criminal Justice System and an A in Drug Abuse in Contemporary Society. I expect an A in Cybercrime  but I can't confirm it. I'm taking my Penal Law final today and Organized Crime tomorrow, I should have an A for the former and an A-/A in the latter.

Then I'm fucking done.

University of Nebraska. Right now I'm doing auditing, but I was doing a lot of tax stuff earlier in the year. I don't know what I'll be doing once I get my master's since I'm not really sure I want to be a CPA but that's plan for right now. I'd rather not disclose my salary, but it isn't uncommon to be making six figures after 5 years at a major firm. I have a cousin who works at PWC that does very well. And I have another cousin that is the controller for a major company in California in her 30s and she's a millionaire, so there's money to be made in the field.

I take it your GPA wasn't important? Many people have told me that, although I don't think it's an excuse to blow off school

I want to move to Seattle and be an accountant for Microsoft  :o

Eh, it is and it isn't. To be enrolled in any business classes at my school you had to have an overall GPA of 2.5, and you had to have a 2.5 GPA in accounting classes to get the degree. It was also good for internships, but once you start working full-time it isn't brought up.

Was that sarcasm? I want to know how everyone else is doing academically. Seeing so many good grades from people who are also forum frequenters and gamers really gives me the motivation to get my butt in gear.

Fuck, I really need to watch it.  I'm sarcastic so much that my serious posts get lost in it.  When I saw the title my first thought was "Oh, looks like FatalT got good grades."  That is a good attitude though.  If I do poorly on my grades I usually just get depressed and blame it on something else.

I'm sitting for the CPA exam this summer as well. What prep materials are you using? I am using Gleim.

TO ALL YOU ACCOUNTING MAJORS: STAY OUT OF MICHIGAN. I have a Master of Science in Accounting and I have been unemployed for a full year. Unless you have 3+ years of experience, you will find it near impossible to find a job.

If I were you, I would try to get recruited while you're still in school, that way when you graduate you'll have a job waiting for you.

I graduated Saturday. This last semester I got:

Decision Making A
Services Marketing: A
Leadership (capstone for MGMT class): A-
Consumer Behavior: C+

I feel so jipped in my Consumer Behavior class. I somehow fucked up and got a 55 on the first exam, but then got a 93 on the second exam, and an 89 on the Final Exam (which is also cumulative). If I got an 89 on a CUMULATIVE final ,why should it matter if I fucked up the first one? Also I took a hit in quizzes since the couple of classes I missed were unfortunately on a night when it was also a quiz. Oh well. I graduated and got A's in 10 of my last 12 classes since returning to school after a year and a half layoff. The two classes I didn't annoy the hell out of me though, feel like I got jipped.
