Looking back, I think the second book is probably my favorite.  And yes, there is a definite drop off in quality.  I'd rank them:

2>3>1>4>>>>>5=6>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>7

I've been sitting at Wolves of the Calla for quite some time now. I just can't build up the motivation to continue when I see the other two books looking at me, knowing that's what comes next.

That said, so far I'd rank them 4>1>2>3, haven't read enough of 5 to rank it.

It's pretty sad when the author of the book tells you the ending's gonna suck before you even read it.

It makes me wonder... I wish he would have written the last three books like RIGHT AFTER he finished Wizard and Glass, then maybe they might not have sucked so bad.

I already finished reading Eddie's setup and its moving on. I love how it finishes with him leaving his other worldly possesions behind, even his addiction.

No series of books has ever left me more disappointed.

Fuck that ending. Just fuck it. What a vile cop out. I especially hated

how a dumb fucking HORN that got RETCONNED into the books somehow became this all important part of Roland's redemption. And then of course the Deus Ex Machina of a little magic boy who can draw little magic pictures. And the Crimson King, who had been this ominous, mysterious enemy through the entire series, the greatest threat Midworld had ever known, was a crazy old man throwing HARRY POTTER MERCHANDISE.

FUCK the Dark Tower.

;_;

I have to keep going but I'm disheartened that the ending is basically universally hated

Stop after Wizard and Glass.  Any ending you come up with in your head will be better than what King shat out.

In all honesty, he should have taken his fucking time with the last three books instead of writing them back to back to back. The Dark Tower series was completely different than his other books, and the first four books were better because he took his fucking time, thought of other ideas, and every once in a while, the next book would come to him. He just forced those last three out.

In all honesty though, it didn't get REALLY fucking bad until Book 7, and not even REALLY REALLY bad until that ending. If an author feels he has to write and tell most of his fans to stop reading if they don't want to be disappointed, you know it's going to suck.
