Keep in mind that the first level is pretty much the worst part of the game.

I think I'm the only one who liked the Liberty Island level. I played it through like a big crazy Thief 2 mission and it worked out OK (well, most of the time).
It's not exactly cutting-edge anymore, but if you're looking for some fun cyberpunk RPG goodness, then Deus Ex is what you're looking for.
I've played it a few hours recently and it still holds up fairly well.

I disagree with this, that it's not "cutting-edge". While playing Bioshock, I marveled first at the incredible world that the developer had designed, and then at how much of a step backwards it was from Deus Ex, which still feels like its pretty much alone in its class. Alpha Protocol, on the other hand, seems to be built on the "right" stuff.
I played it through two years ago, and the only thing that seemed really antiquated was the UI. Everything else was still pure gold, and it (along with System Shock 2 and Thief 2) is definitely still worth playing if you haven't played it yet. The plot, especially, is still somewhat remarkable for its degree of being "way out there" while still being compelling and making sense. And very few games to this date have done the whole " your decisions have repercussions " as well as Deus Ex did.
best game of all time
and the opening Liberty Island level was my favorite level in the whole game

What is everyone's preferred ending?spoiler (click to show/hide)Im partial to the New Dark Age one myself. Im always down for pushing the reset button on all of humanity, plus Tracer Tong rocks.[close]
What's wonky about it? I'm cool with the rest, I have a Wii
There's a fix for that, search GAF thread titles for 'deus ex.'
The guy complaining was a Windows user but someone had a solution.
I had this problem. It's to do with your processor being very fast. For example mine is a e6400 2.4ghz running at 3.44ghz. There is a way to fix it though!.
First try a cpu slower like some of said.
Or
Launch the game, then ALT-TAB back to the desktop & launch the task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC). Find the game's process in the process tab, then right click on it & select processor affinity. Untick one of the CPUs.
or
open the deusex.ini in the deus ex\system folder and fiddle around with gamespeed=
