And what better way to appreciate MST3K, then with a few of those little bite-sized morsels of funny, the shorts.
Progress Island, USA (aka Puerto Rico) "AHHH, I'm having a freakout up to 10 years later!"

I've been slowly converting all my downloaded MST3K episodes to DVD-R over the past year. Sorry Rhino, but I'm not waiting 15 years just for you guys to release an incomplete collection. I've got about 150 episodes on DVD now, so I'm almost there.

Time of the Apes probably isn't considered a top tier episode by most fans, but I love it so I slipped it in there. :-*
And from that episode, here's the reason (probably) that we'll never get the MST3K Gamera movies on DVD:

TV edits FTW! :lol
Joe Don Baker + MST3K was just pure gold.

Voted for Manos. I watch that with friends at least once a year and it never gets old. And even though it was in their final years, PumaMan, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank, and Hobgoblins are also among their best. Your list is also missing Master Ninja with the late great Lee Van Cleef. I'm so glad that they found a way to continue on ripping stuff even though it's not in the MST3K brand.
Fuck, now I have the damn PumaMan song stuck in my head again.

Also does anyone know whether or not Pod People was a sequel of some sort? The opening of that movie seemed like it was from a completely different film.

According to the Internet, the US distributors tacked on some extra footage at the first from some other movie for no particular reason. :lol

Shoot, I was kinda hoping that there was this long lost prequel to Pod People waiting to be found somewhere. Also this thread wouldn't be complete without an appearance from Trumpy.

Space Mutiny is the best.
I can't get into Joel era MST3K.
-
kitten with a Whip is probably one of my favorite episodes
my friend from portugual sent me all of the episodes. so i have 10 seasons of mst3k on my hdd. he didn't send me the original original ones, but that's ok. i don't really like them

I just burned that onto a disc this afternoon. I think I shall watch it tonight.

I've considered changing my handle to Zap Rowsdower several times on this forum, but I believe strongly in nickname continuity.

Wow that's the first time I've heard that said. I liked Joel a lot but Mike had his charm about him too and was also pretty knowledgable with the crap he ripped.
-
i just finished watching "the rebel set". it was a boring, cliched, and confused movie, but not a truly terrible one -- although GOD I HATE BEATNIKS. tamer behavior from joel and the bots, since the movie lent itself more to obscure references and gags about classic hollywood than monty python and sexual innuendo.
-
i think mike really benefited from great writing starting in about season 6 or 7 when everything just coalesced
but i like them both.
i actually took a nap while watching Teenagers from Space today
-
also the starfighters is a personal fave, just for the gay subtext and the skewering of fighter jock masculinity
-
I think the jokes got meaner in Mike era MST3K and that's the kind of humor I respond better to.

I'm gonna be sad the day my VHS collection bites the dust. I have all but some of the first season taped and that also includes the great commercials from the 90's. I have a feeling a lot of those movies will never get released by Rhino. Maybe I should find a way to transfer all those to a harddrive at some point.

It's ok. I'm one of the few that actually really liked Corbett's work as Crow just because of how cynical he became from staying stuck in space all those years while Mike and Tom were cruising the edges of the universe.

Joel kinda had this naive "aww shucks" quality about him, whereas Mike always seemed a bit more sarcastic.
-
I have to go with Space Mutiny on this one, but it was a tough decision because MST3K had so many great episodes.
"Slab Bulkhead!"

No Castle of Fu Manchu option? :o Pod People wins out of that pile. Mike ain't got shit on Joel. Dude was too cheerful for a guy trapped in space and damned to watch shitty movies.

Just repeat to yoursef "It's just a show, I should really just relax".

Trouble with Manos was it was so bad they couldnt make a good episode out of it.

It was pretty painful. It was worth it though for the Torgo host segments that would follow for the rest of the series though. :lol

I think that's what made it so fun for me. The film is quite possibly THE worst film ever made and you can feel the pain coming from Joel and the bots as they tore it to shreds. There's a ton of good jokes in there too especially dealing with Torgo and hearing everyone have a complete psychological breakdown.

Manos was pure bad, but nothing quite tops the soul-crushing awfulness of Sidehackers. It's basically the opposite of anti-depressant.
-
Space Mutiny or Prince of Space are pretty close...
...but I'd have to go with Space Mutiny. Krankor's laugh and the Prince's barbecue lighter gun just can't compete with Roll Fizzlebeef.

:lol I'm watching The Violent Years now (from the mighty pen of Dr. Edward D. Wood Jr.)
"Man criminally assaulted by four girls." "Refuses to press charges. Was quoted as saying "THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!""
