zzzzz
-
I'll be awaiting your detailed impressions
-
You check mailboxes and you hit things with a rake
-
Is this that RPG?
If so, SHUT DE FUCK UP. It's being made with Ron Gilbert, the man behind Monkey Island 1 and 2. I am all over this.

Wait, whu? I didn't know this. Now I'm suddenly interested in trying this game out.

I doubt it. You didn't check mailboxes and hit things with a rake in those games.
-
it got a 4 in Edge, not that that means anything
-
ill try the demo
fuck 1600 points. I could get TWO copies of REZ for that.
-
The demo is extremely short (and I examined EVERY mailbox and hit EVERY thing with a rake).
Battle system is active time. Enemies will attack if you loaf around. You have three different attacks.
* Item
* Regular Attack
* Special Attack
Each circle (attack) has a timer, you see it slowly fill up. When it's ready, just press the button, and then select an enemy, and you whack it with your rake.
You can block attacks at the right time (triggers) - the enemy's health will flash quickly signaling when to do it. This isnt like Mario RPG, it just lessens the damage.
When you get Special Attacks (this takes the longest to wait for), a little mini game will play, and you increase your damage if you do good.
Also, if you use a Regular Attack, all three timers reset. So you can't go Regular -> quickly use an item -> Special
You also have to keep an eye on each person (three in a party), as you have to hit left or right to highlight the character in order to use their attack. So you can't just mash X (Regular attack) and win. Though you can. But it's not like Final Fantasy.
Character Creation is extremely limited. What's cool though is it models the 2D version (your status portrait, and during cutscenes) after it.
Game is mostly for Penny Arcade masturbators (yeah, i know, dur) who bought Fruit Fucker t-shirts

You could get Rez... and Ikaruga
Or Ikaruga... and Castlevania
Or a bunch of awesome Rock Band tracks
(and still get it for free on the PC)

I have a feeling liking this game depends entirely on being a super fan of PA and knowing what happened in strip #168
-
pretty much, maf. considering i have zero interest in PA, this game was never even on my radar. i'll try the demo for shits though.

I don't hate it. It's definitely mediocre at best, but PA fans will probably like it. 20 bucks is way too much, though, and you people know that I don't give much of a fuck when it comes to blowing money. If Puzzle Quest wasn't 20 bucks, no fucking way this should have been.
-
I still wish they had actually attempted to create an entirely 2D game.
-
Can we just stop dilly dallying and get Vigilante 8 plz?
-
1600 points? Get out of here.
-
It's fun. Then again, I don't play RPGs because the writing is hackneyed and the gameplay is a timesink, so something short like this, with Tycho's writing, is right up my fruitfucking alley.

You have a point. But I bet lots of PA readers will be happy to pay this because they feel bad about reading the comic for free for years. I bought their theme pack for XBLA for this exact reason.
Also, :bow chronovore :bow2

What do you mean for free? PA is a giant advert site... either for their goodies, or other companies games, along with Childs Play and PAX. They arent living off bread crumbs.

if someone hands me a magazine with ads in it and doesn't ask me for any money, i sure feel like i'm getting something for free...don't know about you. i'm aware of the economics of the situation but it still feels like a free product to me.
-
well maybe you should stop filling out those free EGM subscriptions! FREE!
-
I got a free code for this today, I may as well see how it is
-
I literally fell asleep while playing the demo. Sure, I could blame it on the 12 hour work day I just finished before hand or the scotch and soda I was drinking but fuck if this game wasn't boring as all hell. Sure looks nice though.
1600 pts? :lol No fucking way.

...you can get two volumes for about the same price as the game.
-
I pirated the PC version, it's not too bad
Link please

Thank you, sir. Nice to see you here as well. You can help keep Singh off my delicious buttcakes.

I played the demo, and while the writing (barring the narrator who is complete trash) is amazing, the gameplay is so bad I could never imagine myself buying that.
Now we know the end result of that "Well if you think other people make games so bad, why don't YOU make a game" is. Sorry PA, but your game sucks fat donkey nuts.
-
I thought the demo was pretty fun. No other game on XBLA like it.
-
Yea it is pretty boring. Paper mario combat without the charm or talent.
