Title: IGN reviews GRID
Post by: pilonv1 on May 22, 2008, 08:25:49 PM
8.5 Presentation
The glossy, dynamic DiRT-style menus are back, but without the long load times. Grid is wrapped in a superior package, but the low car count is a bit disappointing.
9.5 Graphics
Beautiful lighting, full damage modeling, great-looking tracks and lovingly-rendered cars, all running smoothly at top speeds? Yes, please.
8.5 Sound
The menu music is great, and the cars purr and scream appropriately, even changing tone with each camera view. But the recorded dialogue gets repetitive too quickly.
9.0 Gameplay
Grid gets racing right. The tracks are intense, the crashes are spectacular to behold and the cars are a blast to drive.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
It will take you a good long while to reach the top of the rankings in Grid's single-player mode, and there's full multiplayer as well.
8.7
Great OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

PS3 has longer loading times. Looking forward to playing this with my wireless wheel :bow2

Lucky I did a last minute check - I just finished typing up the same topic.  Some of us already knew this game would be mega-rad, but it's still nice to see a positive review rolling in.

I'll be getting the superior PC version.

But if you have to choose between the 360 and PS3 versions, then definitely go with the prettier, quick loading, better playing 360 version.

I'm sure McDragon will inform us soon on how the PS3 has 140 less P and less anti-aliasing.

What?  I am endorsing the 360 version as well!

I'm just not gonna lie and say that it's as good as the PC version.  That's what Sfags do.

I'm still fucking around with the demo and I'm watching a replay of my last race right now as I'm typing this and I gotta say that this really is one of the best looking games that I've ever seen.  Spanks the shit out of every racing title out there.

I played the demo with a wheel over the weekend quite a lot - this game feels so frickin' awesome.

I even love the drift which I thought I'd just gloss over.  I find the drift pretty hard - I had to turn on the assists for drift because I flat-out sucked without them.  Guess I'll have to turn them off when I get better.

But surprisingly I get higher scores in drift with the in-car cam rather than the bonnet cam.  Overall this demo is just phenomenal.
