Looks pretty cool.
-
There is a demo on PSN right now.
-
I never had any idea what you did in the game, but I just tried out the demo. Now that I understand the mechanics, it's a lot of fun.
-
Yeah, I really like this game. Originally I thought you could shoot a line in the air, but that isn't the case.
-
wow, gotta download this
-
I'll have to try it. When does the game come out?
-
31st.
And meh at that demo. It seems like just about every other indie game out there - something you'd play for 10 minutes and then move on. The YouTube feature is pretty cool though.
-
It controls very awkwardly and illogical, not how you'd expect which is frustrating and causes a disconnect with how your guy behaves on screen and what you input.

Huh? It felt perfectly logical to me.
-
Yeah, it is fairly easy to grasp after a minute of messing around. Any face button is essentially pushes you out on a line and you could either hit it again to jump off or wait and build up speed while swinging. Lower the line with any shoulder button. When in the air, you can slightly move your character or jolt down using sixaxis. If you swing towards another structure, you automatically stick unless you press a button, then you just spin and pass through it. I didn't read any info on the game and it made sense fairly quickly.
I don't think it feels like an indie game, but actually more like the bit generation games on the GBA. It reminds me a lot of Orbital, which was actually my favorite of that game series.

Logical would be: pressing a button to jump, then pressing another to release your silk thread and pointing with the stick where you want it. Easier, less cumbersome and builds on/takes other existing similar games's control mechanics.
-
This game sucks. Go play Umihara Kawase instead.

you're suggesting a change in core gameplay, not controls.

Damn this console sucks. Geo Wars 2 next week, bitches.

I'm not sure I agree, but whatever the label, I want that.

...lol. you're suggesting the ability to release your silk mid-air and latch onto things, except that's just not how the game mechanic works. you have to be attached to set your silk in the first place. if it was like you suggested, you'd be able to maneuver totally differently and they'd have to rebuild the levels accordingly.
i learned how to play it and had fun. try that.

i learned how to play it and had fun. try that.
:omg
I'm sure I can put more time into 'learning' it and I'll like it more, but I'm very fickle about controls. This is a small PSN game, it needs to be the very essence of pick up and play for me. If something doesn't feel right to me, I just put it away.
-
well like my edit points out, your suggestion has less to do with controls and more to do with changing the core movement gameplay. if you're thinking along the lines of using silk like spiderman, you're going to run into problems. once you realize the movement has a different flow, it'll come more naturally.
you've got to be attached to something to set your silk so plan your movements with that in mind. maybe think about it in steps - jump, land, silk; jump, land, silk. think of yourself more like a spider or something, rather than spider-man or bionic commando.
-
I really liked the music
controls not so much, but they make sense after a while.
-
I like it a lot, will buy.
I don't get the silk fully though. How come sometimes it feels like the silk hangs on to me by default, and other times I think it's only if I hold the button?
edit: I see, it always sticks to you unless you're jumping off the floor.'
Oh and if you hold the face button, the silk will snap as soon as you let go of the button. Maybe if you guys get into the habit of holding the button you'll feel more in control.

So are there supposed to be 50 Spectra in the whole game, or is that just a target goal to unlock something special? Or does the game become endless once you reach a certain number of Spectra?
I like how they mix quirky game design with actual gaming objectives. Suck a dick, fl0w.
-
plus there are trophies.
I don't care much about them, but others might.
-
Co op is really cool too. You can piggyback each other and get some extra distance. The only thing that sucks is that the camera doesn't zoom out all that much if you aren't close to each other, and if one person falls off screen they only have two seconds to get back on before they are penalized. Penalty is halving the amount of pollen in all the little pollen holders, which blows. Plus the game seems to randomly decide which person is the 'leader', so sometimes the person who falls will be zapped back up but other times the guy who's making progress is forced down to the bottom with the loser.
-
yeah, i'm surprised by how much i like this -- i thought it'd be another chillout game with cool audiovisuals, but it's actually a pretty involved, unconventional platformer. with cool audiovisuals. i might go back and try the other pixeljunk stuff now
-
Word. I thought the vids looked cool a few weeks or months ago, but the game is straight up fun. I can't wait to get the full version.
Takes a shit on trendy stuff like fl0w, it has a real purpose instead of just being flashy.
I still have no real interest in the existing PixelJunk lineup. They're the ones doing the new game about being a flower petal in the wind or some shit, right? I'll give that a shot.
-
controls made perfect sense and were easy to do for me. Was fun, might buy.
-
I don't even know what fl0w is, but fl0wer looks awesome. I think they are made by the same people.
-
If that's the game I'm talking about then I just changed my mind about trying it.
-
flower (I'm not sure if there is an 0 or not) looks a lot better than whatever the hell fl0w is supposed to be. You basically just fly around in a 3D place completing objectives and collecting other things to join your wind leaf thing.
-
Sounds like fl0w, unless those objectives have substance.
-
What they showed at E3 was the first level where you fly and collect, but they did say there will be more and that this stuff was really early (I think pre-alpha)
-
So this is coming out today. Who's buying it?
-
i will be buying it
-
So this is coming out today. Who's buying it?
nobody is gonna buy it, now that XBLA steamrolled it - again
-
I'll be buying it. I wish it had online co-op.
-

Steamrolled it? I thought you hated GeoWars 2?
-
I will be when they update the fucking US store.
-
I thought the demo was 'OK'.
Maybe I just dont get it yet...
-
i had fun with the demo but almost feel like co-op takes away from the experience. the penalty for one player being far away from the other is crippling--if there's one less-skilled player, they can drag the others down. a skilled player can't really pick up the slack, either, because half the time it's going to reset them instead of the player who fell.
if you had 3 people who were all skilled, it's probably a lot of fun though. and there's nothing wrong with the singleplayer.
-
I just played it again and I still think it's nothing more than Boards of Canada: The Videogame. Sure the concept is interesting and it's pretty to look at but I fail to see any real meat here. It seems like something I'd play a couple times and then move on.
If they ever discount it, I may bite.
-
I like it because it reminds me of Orbital on GBA, except with a swinging mechanic instead of orbital attraction.

I can acknowledge that it is in fact better than Eden, I dont necessarily have to like it
-
Well, I'm buying it. Maybe I'll try the demo again first to make sure I still want more.
-
I'm buying it. The demo was sooooo fun.
-
I bought this
I had two times when it "clicked" for me - once about 2-3 minutes in, and once about 30 minutes in
you can use L+R to shorten the thread
also, swinging around is as important as grab-release
really, really digging it
-
uploading some vid of me getting the 5th spectra in garden 1. wish i had recorded some gameplay when i was playing co-op with my girlfriend - we pulled off some sweet combos and got both combo trophies in one go. i'm much more used to the controls now and can maneuver quite well. awesome game.
still processing as i edit this post

this game is like, zero-g umihara kawase, or something
it's extremely addictive. I haven't "zoned" on a game like this in ages
it's really fun, but the feeling you get when you full clear a level on the 5th spectra is awesome
-

another
-
well, I just played for like 2 hours and full-cleared the first two gardens. the game is really, really, really good. this is probably the most pure gameplay fun I've had with a game in months if not years. it's just crack. awesome crack.
-
I don't know if I'm gonna clear gardens one at a time, I hear the later ones get really hard and I want something relaxing to fall back on.
Are new gardens unlocked by your number of Spectra, or by specific Spectra?
Also, anyone having much luck with trophies?
-
i have both combo trophies. i was 1 seed short for the 'all seeds in garden 1' trophy.
i think it's the number of spectra, but i can't say for sure.
-
Wait, do I have to collect all the Spectra I've already gotten plus a new one in order to clear, or just touch a new one?
-

you have to collect all the old ones as well.
-
i've gotten 28/29 seeds on garden 1 like 3 times now... where the fuck is that last one?
-
What are the combo trophies for?
I got all the seeds on the first garden - there seem to be a few that could be easy to miss, but I was quite thorough (mainly because of a couple of mistakes that had me crashing to the bottom again).
10 and 15 combos. lots easier in co-op
-
Co op partners share combos?
-
Garden 7 is a mother fucker.
-
I'm still on garden 1. I wanted to get 29 out of 29 seeds or whatever. Apparently I got a trophy, and I didn't even know this game had them.
-
Co op partners share combos?
yup
-
I keep getting 9 combos, I'll just wait for my gf to be here.
I imagine that if either player lands on something both lose their combo multiplier?
-

nah, if someone is swinging and the other player lands, they still continue their combo. there's a limit though--you can't just keep alternating and doing an infinite combo.
-
you're going to get to garden 7 and want to kill yourself. It's fucking redonkulous.
-
i got the first spectra in garden 7 and decided to go back and do other gardens :P
