I've seen card readers before, but the inclusion of SATA makes it megaton.  It also uses an esata connection, so that thing will work as fast as an internal hard drive.

Sure. As an IT guy, I hold spinning drives in my hand all the time. If you hold a spinning drive in your hand and flip it upside down, you feel a gyroscope effect or some shit. It feels like its fighting you for a second mid flip.

I'm sure it's no more or no less safe than having the drive be inside a computer, where there's lotsa dust and more exposure to heat.  I mean, as long as you're not like spraying tomato sauce all over the hard drive.  I just installed a SATA drive that had been sitting on top of my fucking fridge for the better part of 2 years, works without a hitch.  It's not the outside that makes HDDs go bad.

SATA is an interface bus for hard drives.  It's the main one today.

Thats sick, totally sick. would be cool if you could retrofit a fridge to have ports for the HDDs INSIDE the fridge. Though, theres the issue with moisture and stuff but keeping it cool = win
