From Joystiq:
In news post yesterday, Penny Arcade's Gabe revealed the top four best launches ever for Xbox Live Arcade, with the launch window being the first three days of availability. The list is as follows:
Rez HD, 25k units
Ikaruga, 22.5k units
Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 1, 16.5k units
N+, 13k units
Honestly, we're a bit surprised by the initial success of Rez and Ikaruga. Not that we didn't want them to succeed (they really are awesome games), but we didn't expect to see Xbox Live community rally so quickly around years-old re-releases. Now, if we could only see data for worst XBLA launches, or even total Rez playtime using multiple controllers as trance vibrators.

Sounds great for more quality efforts on XBLA. One could only hope that Radiant Silvergun is next, based on these numbers.

25k sold? that's it? THAT'S IT?!
-
Those are launch windows sales, buddy.
-
That's good, those are the 2 best XBLA games if you ask me.
-
Numbers taken from VGChartz :lol

Rman, is he lying? if he is, we'll just watch Vanilla Sky without him :heart

How does ioi make up his XBLA numbers? Does he call up all the people he knows and ask "Hey, did you download Rez HD this week?" Or does he browse GAF and see how many people claim to have downloaded it, and then "extrapolate"?

Good point, he probably uses that automated XBL purchaser thing on GAF.

A general trend is to look at the Leaderboards for the games
And it's not ioi who does it, someone else does. He explained it on the other board

Kinda surprised by those games being at the top. Would've figured games like Castlevania: SOTN or Marathon to be in there.

VGchartz is amazing, because not only are the numbers made up, the motherfucker spelled charts with a Z, and it still gets cited in Newsweek and Reuters and whatever else all the damn time.
-
It would be like if I had a site called PolitikalNEWZ.com where I reported on Obama having an affair with a man and McCain shaking hands with Bin Laden the day before 9/11 and CNN picking it up.

They get quoted because they fill a need. And as videogames become a bigger and bigger part of mainstream society's entertainment world, that need will only grow and grow.
As soon as there's a credible alternative, hell, even A alternative, vgchartz will become even less relevant then it is now.
