So I sold my 46" Sony 1st gen 1080P LCD to a cousin and got a 58" Samsung 1080P plasma on Sunday.
So far I think it's awesome.
Not only is the picture much bigger but the image quality is vastly improved over the previous TV as well.

SAMSUNG!!!!!!!!!!

I wasn't even a Samsung fan before. I had the same Samsung TV that's used in 360 kiosks but that was just a so-so TV.
Initially, I had planned to get a Pioneer or Panasonic plasma but neither company has released their new 58 incher yet. The Samsung looked so good that I decided not to wait anymore.

I've used Samsung since my EDTV, I love their shit

Samsung products seem to be more reliable than Sony's overpriced crap.
I don't know why so many people keep saying that Sony makes the best LCDs.
My Sony 1080P LCD gave me so many headaches. It really looks like a POS compared to my new TV.
I hope my cousin don't get too mad when he sees my new TV.

Samsungs generally have the best color in their LCDs from what ive seen
-
Samsung's plasmas are seriously underrated. I bought mine in January 2007 and it has been great. The Panasonic plasma of the time had a "purple snakes" issue which resulted in purple bands appearing at times, and the Samsung was the only other plasma that had very good black levels. And it gave the best colour gradients of any TV I could find (very minimal posterisation).
Pioneer, Panasonic and Samsung plasma's have the best blacks (with the Pioneer being the best of course), and no other plasmas come close as far as I know.
-
Yeah, the colors seem to look really good on my plasma even before any calibration has been done.
Also, the Samsung seems to have a better video processor than any of my previous TVs.
DVDs look much crisper than they did on the Sony LCD or on my older Panasonic 720P plasma.
I'm glad that the TV works so well with SD material because now I'm all set for MGS4.

What is that white turdy thing in the lower right corner
-
It's a WII.
I put it there to give a sense of scale. It's never connected anyway.

:bow Samsung screens
I love my Samsung. It's only 32", and it won't play my 360 via VGA (smh) but it's picture quality is outstanding.
-
Good job on going plasma. That's really fucking expensive though.
Edit: Using a plasma as a PC monitor might not be such a good idea though.

I love my Samsung DLP

Nice TV, SG. I was looking to get a Sony XBR4, but I might just go for a Sammy. In the tube days Trinitrons were pretty much worth their premium prices. Today, Sony TVs are not that much better, and sometimes worse, that other manufacturers.
-
how does porn look on that thing :o
-
I just got a Samsung LCD.
46" A650.
I love it.
Colors and blacks are amazing, blur is nowhere to be found. 120mhz motion makes movies look ridiculous but does make games somehow more appealing. I have a hard time putting it into words.

SAMSUNG IS WHAT YOU WANNA SAY!

I agree with you 100% about Sony (in my opinion they're coasting on a reputation that was forged prior to about a decade ago) but I have to admit the XBR4's are a great screen.
I'm no expert but recently I've been helping a friend look for a LCD and the Samsung and Sony's are easily the top of the bunch. They both have awesome black levels for LCDs (speaking of the glossy screen Samsung's here), but if I remember right the Sony does resolve a tiny bit more detail in dark areas.
Of course there's other considerations like lag and blur but since everyone has a different opinion it's probably best to drag some consoles to a store and test for yourself.
I'd probably go the Samsung myself - I've been burned quite a few times by the reliability of Sony stuff built in the last decade or so. That said, my Samsung plasma is currently away for warranty repairs at the moment - electronics just aren't what they used to be. :(

Samsung :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat
