360 owners do not have to endure installs, and this is for the same games where on the PS3 you are forced to install.
Even PS3-exclusive games (barring some notable exceptions such as the mentioned Uncharted) have to be installed.
There aren't any obvious or positive results to gain from this. I don't see any significant improvements in load time, improved textures or frame rates.

Last time there was a really long download was back with GTHD. Nothing tops the 8 hours it took to download Crackdown.

The favored opinion here seems to be that it's to make up for deficiencies in Blu-Ray streaming, but Uncharted sort of punches that argument in the teeth and leaves it for dead. Although it makes sense for multiplatform releases, I guess. I don't mind it, as long as the results are obvious and positive. A game like Haze requiring a sizable install and then coming out looking the way it does, that's troubling.
Although so far the amount of exclusives requiring sizable installs on the PS3 are in the minority, so I'm not buying the "notable exception" stuff.

anyways, install time should be calculated in the dl time like the 360 does. But I think the issue is that the ps3 OS can't install the software in the background like the 360 does. Hell, it even stops downloading while watching a Blu Ray movie (or slows to a fucking crawl, one or the other).
