Title: It's Wed! What did you purchase with birthday money?
Post by: Eric P on May 28, 2008, 08:08:37 AM
woo.  yesterday was my birthday and i got cash monies from my parents.  what do i do with it, do i save it?  do i invest it?  do i put it towards bills, rent, or car maintenance?

fuck no.  i only LOOK like an adult.  instead, thanks to a book i'm reading on Grant Morrison, I decided to buy all of the Grant Morrison written Doom Patrol.

What a coincidence, it's my birthday today. But I already purchased a 22" 1680x1050 monitor for my PC at home with the birthday money from my mom and stepdad. It's so liberating to have that space.

did you see your PM?

it's really a very interesting book which so far i would recommend to any fan of Morrison.  The Chapters on Arkham Asylum and Animal Man are very interesting.  I ordered the doom patrol books because I hadn't read them all and I wanted to have reference when the author got into those.

I did, yeah. I've actually read it - thanks for the heads up however. :)

From Wikipedia:

Brendan McCarthy was involved in the creation of Danny the Street and planned to bring Danny back in Solo #12 where he would have become a member of the Green Lantern Corps - Street Lantern. The idea never came to fruition.

STREET LANTERN OMG

suck on that, mogo

YOUR BOOK COLLECTION SUCKS COCKS IN HELL!

now someone needs to do this for Alan Moore.

Did you see that This October will have Dave Gibbons book on the creation of The Watchmen?  If nothing else, the movie should bring about some interesting scholarship on the original book.  Snyder is saying 3 hour theatrical cut w/ a 4.5 hour Director's Cut

i'm really concerned because Michael Moorcock says the original published editions were horribly edited, and the third book was radically altered by an unknown 3rd party, thus making it appear as though Peake lost steam at the end.

it wasn't until 1977 when the penguin classics editions restored the original text that the full story appeared as it was written and intended.  I couldn't find any word on which version of the text the Overlook Press editions utilize.

The third book isn't as good as the other two, in general.  I don't think any amount of alterations or re-editing would have fixed it up.  He was sick when he wrote it.

Happy birthday!

I'm a firm believer that any money you receive in lieu of a present should be spent however you see fit. Like, you shouldn't feel obligated to put birthday money toward bills because it's actually your gift. :)

Standalone epic with characters that can actually change, evolve & die vs. massive crossover that needs to be crowbarred into continuity, meaning no threat of the central premise actually occurring. Yeah. WWH was pointless.

Couldn't find Mass Effect PC in stores. I did pick up the new Europa Universalis 3 expansion, which pretty much turns the game into the definitive beer-and-pretzels historical grand strategy game on the market. It just took a 15 months of patches and two expansions to get there. :)

An Acer 4720Z laptop that was a demo at Staples. Ultra-low end (14", T2330, 1GB, 160GB, Home Premium), but it was $230 OTD and i really just need something to hop online with, download shots off my camera, and some light office usage.
