should have made it an animated film or CGI. all the costumes look like horrible rip offs. i know in a sense that's sort of the point but i wonder how this will do at the boxoffice

Man, he's NAILED the costumes so far, both in this and the older pics.

I forget, is he still having this take place in the 80s?

Yeah, the 80s set design from some of the leaked shots looks pretty awesome.

That shot looks perfect, yep.

And those running times are confirmed, Eric? Or are you just throwing those out?

“I thought the ‘Black Freighter’ story would never see the light of day,” he said. “The main picture is nearing three hours long and I know I have a fight on my hands just with that.”

i'm having trouble tracking down the 4.5 hour director cut comment i read

Cool. I need to get around to finishing this. I've read about 1/4 or 1/3 through it at a local B&N. I would've bought it if they had the Absolute edition. And Amazon doesn't have it either. I wish I bought it when it was on sale sometime last year. :(

it's for a dvd special edition, which will integrate the black freighter into the main movie

i just hope they haven't pared hollis mason's part down to nothing

awesome, i'm surprised they didn't just entirely cut out some of the less important minutemen.  everything i've seen or heard about this movie has been good.  this might actually not suck.

should have made it an animated film or CGI. all the costumes look like horrible rip offs. i know in a sense that's sort of the point but i wonder how this will do at the boxoffice

the main characters from the 80s don't look as hokey,

But if it doesn't do good at the boxoffice, we'll never get a Watchmen 2!  :omg

I like his costume but what's with the mustache...
He's supposed to look younger, not older :-\
Anyway the movie is looking much more promising than I expected but I'm reserving my excitement. I don't want to be hurt!  And I'm not even sure if this should be a movie, maybe a miniseries, but even then, the comic is perfectly fitted to it's medium.

Everyone who hasn't read Watchmen: read Watchmen!  :bow Alan Moore :bow2

name some other great stuff by Moore I should read. I'm just getting into comics/graphic novels, need all the recommendations I can get. I got the Dark Phoenix X Men saga in the mail today and finished it in an afternoon, really good! Now I want the X men omnibus that has issues 94-130.

I als got Iron Man Extremis ordered, which I hear is pretty good. Next on my reading list are Ultimates and Sandman. But do add more

My personal favorite favorites:

Watchmen
From Hell (which maybe isn't for everyone)
V for Vendetta
Top Ten
The League of Extraordinary Gentleman (Vol. 1 is awesome, 2 is good, Black Dossier is 90% shit)

He's done other great work, you might want to look into Miracleman/Marvelman (which you'd have to download probably) and Swamp Thing, though those don't read all that well in a modern context (too damn wordy) they have some great ideas and are quite important.  Promethea I quite like, and has beautiful art, but it turns into a lecture series on the Kabbalah/magic eventually  :-\
I hung on anyway.  Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow is a really nice "final" Superman story.  Brought to Light is great if you're into a psychedelic CIA history lesson from an anthropomorphized eagle.  Out of print though (publisher is toast).  I really love it anyway.
Some would suggest The Killing Joke but I don't like it all that much.  Art is tremendous though and there are a few good scenes.  Some people adore the book.  Moore claims not to care too much for it himself.

i must be the only person who enjoyed the black dossier.

I tried to enjoy Black Dossier... it had some interesting content and ideas buried in there that could have made a few great League comics, and I appreciate what I assume Moore was going for, but it just bored me most of the time.  It's a nifty effort but I wanted more comic book and less stylistic wank.  And the comic part at the end wasn't even particularly enjoyable to me... I was disappointed :'(

for me what really made the book was the detailing of the other leagues and the Orlando tale.

the comic sections were, to me, the worst parts.

Those parts did turn out to be more substantive and interesting. I just would have preferred to read them as individual comics.  Prose comic book stories don't work for me (while prose in the "Under the Hood" style works great).  It felt like Moore had a lot more great League Comics he could have written... if he'd bother to do it.
Do you know... is he still planning to make more?  I remember him saying that the League would be all he'd write comic-wise for the known future, but I haven't seen any further signs of that happening.

He's doing some stuff for Top Shelf and it's heavily rumored that one of his projects is another League.

Damn I'm really out of the loop these days, I'll have to look into it, thanks for the info.  All I'm able to properly keep up with anymore are videogames and Radiohead  :-\
edit: also politics

If he's already planning a huge director's cut, I'd love to see that get a limited theatrical release.

Maybe love's a strong word since I'm not totally sold on this to begin with, but whatever.

it's the reason that comics sucked in the 90s
