No specs :(

Looking at the USB ports on the side, the notebook should be between 6" and 7" deep, around the same size as the eee pc. This means the keyboard will be borked.
Though the outer shell does look nice.

No specs :(
It will have an Intel Atom and a gig or RAM, this much can be guaranteed. I hope it hasa solid state HDD.

But the previously quoted starting prices were higher than the eee or the Wind. And knowing Dell's solid state laptop prices, I'm not entirely convinced there will be one in here. They are on the high end of the scale.

What's the rumored price? The eeepc 901 will be $650.

In a speech some months back, Michael Dell said they'd start between 500-1000 dollars. I don't think Dell is interested in going after the cheap market.

The regular Inspiron line starts at around $550; there's no way they would price it close to the XPS line.

I dunno. It's not like this thing was part of Dell's strategy more than a few months ago. I think they've likely rushed with whatever they could throw together. Then again, they haven't said a date yet, so who knows for sure.

The starting price is $299.

I don't see how tiny tiny notebooks are so great. I guess it's nice that they're easier to transport, but at what point does typing on your notebook become as difficult as texting on a cell? I mean, the keyboard must be sooo small.

Not really. I was typing on an EEE yesterday and within a minute I did it almost flawlessly. It's small, but not too small. Any smaller and it's too small though. But I think it depends on your hand size as well.
The thing is though, they just keep getting smaller. Pretty soon we'll see notebooks the side of a PSP.
Maybe I'm weird, but I prefer my desktop. It just seems easier and more comfortable to use, I don't know.
I resist change.
-
They're not meant to replace desktops. They're perfect for someone like me, who wants a light notebook to tote to work daily, so I can do e-mail, messaging, word processing, etc. My current notebook is a bit too hefty for daily wear and tear.
-
Wilco hits the nail on the head. I had 14 presentations to do in Feb this year, and I had to lug my heavy laptop with me. Now I have a tiny EEE PC to take instead.
Plus it looks sexy as hell :heartbeat

Can I config this on the Dell site now, or do I have to wait?

You could uh, try going to Dell's site. Just saying.

macbookair has nothing to worry about here.

And Porsche doesn't have to concern itself with the new Honda Civic. The starting price of the Macbook Air is six time higher than the starting price of the Dell E; they're not in the same market.

Thats not what the thread suggests hill-billy.

Sub-notebooks are very small and inexpensive. The Macbook Air is thin, but not small, while being very expensive. So it's not in the same market as a $299 Dell E with a 9" screen.
And how am I a hill-billy? ???
