Title: So what's the last game review you read?
Post by: Tieno on May 30, 2008, 04:00:09 AM
I've noticed that I hardly read any reviews anymore, I'm just not interested in their opinion. Last review I read was Shawn Elliott's Crysis review. Didn't play the game but I was still interested in what he had to say. I might go see check some other reviews he wrote.

Most reviews I see as fodder for the console wars and very formulaic.

some NG2 reviews.

i used to get angry before when i see them trashing my favorite games like Blue Dragon, now i just laugh or don't care.

tim rogers recent bioshock review (fashionably late as he calls it)

hes probably the most insane person ive ever read something from, he gave it a terrible score

that and a mgs4 review on ign uk. I noticed tons of errors, they need an editor.

i think the last review i read was probably something by tom chick.

i don't really read a lot of reviews instead choosing to place my faith in the forums.

well, forum.  this one.

I never read reviews, usually you just know what the good games are.

I only look at the score and summary.

I never read reviews anymore honestly, I used to read a bunch of IGN reviews.

Last review I read was probably IGN's GTA4 review.

ZP counts? If that's the case, then I saw the TWEWY review.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Zero Punctuation. Watch that every week, but that's not reading. He puts a lot of effort in those 4-5 minutes.

I used to tune into gametrailers reviews, but they numb my mind so much nowadays. Everytime with the stupid question at the start of the review, the dumb wordplays to make for 'cool' setences that are easy on the ears because it's a video review...Can't stand it. At one point I watched a concise version of a GT game review from a GT TV episode. It was so concentrated I wanted to shoot myself. Like reading an entire thread consisting of nothing but kittonwy posts.

I really ran out of places I actually like to read, so I just skim reviews for actual gameplay details and ignore the editorial parts. I can't remember the last time I did it though.

I like GameTrailers vid reviews because at least you can see the game and they seem pretty level headed. I watched a Folklore vid review a few days ago.

IGN Review of GTA IV by hilary. Piece of shit site with a piece of shit editor. He was completely off the mark in his review and he practically buttfucks his way into hyperbole.

I like GameTrailers video reviews too.  Generally they're pretty sensible.

The last review I remember is I think IGN's GTAIV video review where he seemed to talk for way too much of it about how landmarks in the city have been accurately modeled.  Which I don't give a shit about.

I'm not sure who it was - probably Hilary I guess.

I don't remember.  I usually don't read reviews of games I am reading past the score do I don't look out for the flaws they point out.  If you go look at the NG2 thread on gaf, you have people actually looking for slowdown and things like that in the demo.  I would rather not think about that stuff and play the game fresh.

I've been reading MGS4 reviews. So far, only the Eurogamer review seem to be a genuinely good buyer's guide. The ego-piece blogger culture is really fucking with the value of reviews.

I read some old Etrian Odyssey reviews since I'm picking up that game.  A GS in town actually has it in stock so I have them holding it for me, gonna pick it up tomorrow.

I didn't put much stock in the reviews, it should be noted.
