Have you gotten to play Crysis yet, Bob?
-
Those never struck me as particularly heavy on the system. Of course, you will want to run those areas with at least maximum shader quality, or it won't be as striking. I'd constantly reconfigure my settings, depending on whether I wanted to experience Crysis the crowning achievement of realtime graphics splendor, or Crysis the tactical shooter. One day, I'll be able to get the full experience with no compromises.
-
Here's hoping it is an official expansion and not a console version of the game. I need more professional quality Crysis action!
-
I'm hope they've learned from what parts of Crysis people did and didn't love, and put more of the good shit in the expansion pack and less of the bad. The couple of really good levels were awesome (the one with the rice paddies and the one with the bay/lake and AA guns I remember in particular being great).
And I also hope that this isn't just some kind of console version :'(
-

That day is coming: at the end of June or early July we should start seeing the new ATI / Nvidia cards. I've been waiting since the game's launch for this day!
:D

Yeah it runs OK but I'm afraid to move to the snowy levels later on. I don't want the framerate to drop below "playable" 25 fps.
My game went from a solid 30+ FPS to like 15 on those snow levels. I was thinking about lowering it down from High, but I would no compromise.
If they are making a Crysis expansion, take it somewhere new and no longer an island. Not Afrika or the middle east either. I would actually like to see how the engine handles urban areas. The end of Crysis had some amazing parts on that boat.
-
He's bald.
Good choice.
-
I bow to this engine. Fuck Unreal Engine 3, more devs should be using this instead.
-
Well, at least most of Crysis is a lot of fun. The end bits are really bad. Like, they get close to CoD4 single player bad. 70% or so of the game is amazing because it is totally non linear to how you approach each situation. The alien ship parts aren't terrible and zero g is cool at first, but the real fun is everything before that section. Multiplayer is also pretty decent. It is like a poor mans Battlefield, but a better poor mans battlefield than Battlefield 2142, Bad Company, and maybe on part with Quake Wars.
The fact that the game looks amazing, but doesn't look like a shiny over saturated bloom filled piece of shit, is still really worth noting. It is such a pretty looking game, but it is even more amazing that it isn't just a scripted path made to look nice, everything looks nice and you can fly around and it is consistent the entire time.
-
Only possible on PC.
-
Cool, a new game to pirate
Guess they didnt learn the first time
-
How come every PC game comes out with an expansion that's mostly just more of the same with some slight improvements and additions (usually set in snow levels for some reason), instead of a full-blown sequel?

Honest answer? Because the expansion pack generally doesn't require a huge amount of work and gets the bills paid/keeps your releases flowing while you work on your studio's Next Big Thing. The exceptions are MMOs, where expansions are necessary for subscriber retention.
-
This will sell well!

The more you pirate the more chance of Crytek developing console games!
-
No, they're more like a slowly dying creature rather than something that died at once.
I just think it's funny that they made an expansion to a game that sold like crap. Maybe this will sell less poorly?
-
XPacks sell to around 20-30% of the original ownerbase. So yeah, this will bomb pretty fucking hard.
But XPacks also cost around 60-70% less to make.
Expansion packs also get stores to restock your game with a refresh SKU with the expansion content included-the proverbial "gold' edition.
That kind of stuff matters in terms of overall project profits, believe it or not.

To be fair, Crysis broke the million mark four months ago, and was 10th in the latest NPD. I think once the new graphics cards come out this game will also see a sales spike.

Yep. And that's not to mention the cross-promotions due to its value for hardware manufacturers. I understand that Crysis wants to explore more fertile ground and finally get the widespread credit it deserves as a game developer, but I doubt the PC situation can be determined from initial stand-alone sales performance.

I'll wait until this and the original game are repackaged for console.

Even in shitty quality caps, Crisis Warhead looks amazing.

Urban areas in Crysis: Warhead or Crysis 2 would be really, really cool. Here's the famous Bravia ad made on Crysis engine, in realtime:

Personally, I think urban environment would bring the framerate even lower than the snowy jungle :'(
Accoustic remake of a The Knife song? Nice. Who did this?

Will wait for the inevitable, affordable console versions. Didn't they announce that a 360 port is in the works?

Nope, PC only. And you can buy a great card for less than half that price.

$500 cards are if you want to waste your money. You can get an 8800GT relatively cheap in comparison, and it runs games great.
Look at this benchmark recently, for some of the newer cards.

That's at that insane resolution, which chances are you wont even be able to touch. So go lower, and you're running at least 60 frames.
I'm running Crysis at 1280x1024 at High setting, and it runs at a steady 30ish, I want to say. Perfectly playable.
ps. PC gaming sucks (as Crysis shows), and you are better off just buying a 360 anyway.

I wish i had the PC. I played Crysis on my friends 3D workstation, but he's moving to london so i won't have a friend with a PC powerful enough for that.

I hope there are no section of this game that completely slow down on my computer like the later parts of Crysis.

In many ways Warhead is a different game than Crysis. The easiest way to think of Warhead is that it is Crysis with the action ramped up to 11. This promises to be a much more muscular shooter, with no shortage of huge firefights and explosions. In fact, the original Crysis may come off as being a much more cerebral experience in comparison. That game was about cat-and-mouse in the jungle, whereas Warhead is going to be about blowing that jungle up.

The action is cranked up to 11. The entertainment is still stuck at zero.
-
The entertainment should at least be at 1 for being able to punch sea turtles.

Hmm, I don't know how I feel about that. Crysis was at its best when you weren't just taking things head on. I suppose we'll see how this pans out.
