I figured I'd ask the japafags here since there aren't many at Forgotten-Gamer... how is Eternal Sonata? I saw it at Blockbuster today, a lone copy at the bottom row of the shelf. I heard it's too kiddie? Also, how is the story and how many hours is the game? Combat is good from what I read

ITS SHIT POOP GARBAGE LAME AWFUL SHIT GARBAGE POOP
Play Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon instead
-
I picked it up on release and have only played up to the 2nd chapter. It just doesn't hold my interest. :-\
Awesome Chopin faceplate though.

THIS.
Worst RPG in years. Don't let the fancy graphics fool you.
-
I want an RPG to play but Blockbuster didn't have Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon. I also didn't really like the Blue Dragon demo. I would buy Lost Odyssey but I already bought like 4 or 5 games in the last month. Why is it so bad? Give some reasons instead of just one sentence saying it sucks.

Doesn't sound so bad

Boring combat, unclear objectives, annoying dungeons.
I think the general consensus was the BD demo was not a good representation of the final game as well.

There's like a ton of threads because a lot of us played it, but I'll give my short breakdown
* Nice graphics
* Battle system is ok, no qualms
* Music is nice, the Chopin tunes are a plus
* Story is disgusting, and goes completely haywire near the end, good luck trying to figure it out
* Difficulty is distinguished mentally-challenged easy, and the "Encore" mode isn't any better - just spam special moves and you win
* Achievements require two playthroughs (More like 1 6/8ths)
* Very pederast, majority of your characters are underage
* If anyone sees you playing this, you'll reconsider your thoughts on Rock Band and Guitar Hero (yes i read your posts)
* Majority of the characters are useless and throw-away - not to mention the bonus character you get AT THE END OF THE GAME (hello??)
* Enemies are just pallette swaps
It's just extremely bad compared to the other RPGs, even Enchanted Arms is better
-
i can think of a lot of stuff that 10$ would be better spent on.

Good looking out... I guess I'll give Blue Dragon a shot, it's only $19.99 brand new.

Im Evilbores #1 Eternal Sonata fan. I fucken loved it. demi is going to abuse me again but I dont care.
:bow Eternal Sonata :bow2
I do understand that the game is garbage bag for so many reasons, all the hate is justified... I just like some bad games I guess
I was drunk I would say 2/3rds of my total playtime which may have affected my opinion of the game. Graphics look really good when youre wasted

Oh wow BD is $20 new?
Can someone tell me why I would like the game if I didn't like the demo? How long is it? Is there a lot of grinding?
-
If you liked DQVIII, you'll probably like Blue Dragon. You don't need to grind at all.
-
I couldn't stand DQ8 because I had to grind so much, but I liked the atmosphere.
The BD demo is still up right? I remember not being impressed but I'd like to try it again.
-
Blue Dragon is much easier. As long as you don't avoid fights your levels will always be fine complete the game. No random encounters is also a plus. Grinding only comes into play if you want to master multiple classes, and then you can also use the Barrier trick.

Don't even bother with the BD demo, the actual game is oh-so-much-better... plus it can be had for cheap, now. If you enjoy RPGs at all you'll probably end up liking BD. And as for ES, demi pretty much nailed it with his thoughts on the game... don't bother, get BD or LO instead if you want a 360 RPG.
-
I really enjoyed Eternal Sonata. If you liked the Eternal Sonata demo, you'll most likely enjoy the full game. That was the case with me anyway.
It's often billed as an easy game, but in 20 hours of Eternal Sonata and 30 hours of Lost Odyssey I've died once in each. It doesn't strike me as any easier than the average jrpg - they're often pretty easy.
The battle system has a nice tactical element to it. Overally I found it a nice streamlined jrpg experience, not really a jrpg 'lite', it's just that it seemed to trim away the useless fat of some that bogs down some jrpgs.

I want to love ES. But I cant, it's too boring. As you said it's 20hrs + which is fine but
5 enemy types with a few different colours
battles revolving around xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxy
boring characters
the idea behind the battle system is great and where I got upto the light/dark thing wasnt really exploited fully
i would buy a grandia remake that looked like this
-
I just loved the whole premise behind the game, it was so ambtious
-
There is no way in hell Enchanter Arms is better than Eternal Sonata.
-
Enchanted Arms is really good
Makato :bow
I loved it how you got 1000/1000 just for beating the game

Well, how does the game differ from the demo? Which demo-flaws should I disregard?

The demo gives you an abundance of special abilities right off the bat, has a dungeon from 1/2 of the way through the game that you play in, has a TON of monsters wandering about (way more than the retail game), you don't get to really see any plot, also there seems to be much more slowdown in the demo than the actual game.

Hmm, maybe I'll get this sometime later on.

Oh god, I want a next gen Grandia so bad. I doubt that S-E would put it on the 360 though. :(

Yea, I had no idea what was going on. Even the little duders who stand around to give you advice don't tell you about combat abilities, just other crap I don't care about.
I gave it some time and enjoyed it though, will buy soon.

it is tho.
the battle system is good, the storyline is miles better than ES (i know that's not saying much.), and it has the mystery man!
That's because I am the Mystery Man! Ah ha!
