Okay, who all is getting the new 80 GB PS3 that's coming out Thursday? I'm going to get one with my gubment monies. I'm looking forward to having a Blu-Ray player along with the 3-4 decent PS3 games that are out. Anyone else?
-
i will. also i will crush magazine racks if i do not get at the mgs4 midnite lauch. i'm looking forward to finally having a next-gen gaming system/blu-ray player, even if i won't have anything to use on it!
also, having 2 copies of mgs4 is totally going to suck
-
Why two?
-
one with the bundle, one limited edition for the hardcore
-
You could always trade in the pack in.
-
:duh can't believe i didn't think of that. i was pissed that i was going to have to go through the hassle of putting this on ebay, but now i don't have to! thanks mang.
-
Yup, I will be.
Do you know if Gamestop is selling them Midnight on Wednesday like the game itself, or only on Thursday morning?
-
No thanks, waste of money
-
a gamestop employee at GAF said the bundles will be available at midnight, IIRC
-
I can confirm that the bundles will be available at midnight, but do not expect the vast majority of stores to have more than a handful. I am allocated only six units and that's for a store that will have 100+ copies of MGS4 (LE included) in stock.
-
what time do people usually start showing up for these midnight things? i'll camp out if i have to.
-
To be honest, this launch is expected to be something of a dud (think Mario Kart). The reality is that maybe 30 or so people will turn up. And likely very close to midnight.
Metal Gear Solid 4 is not Grand Theft Auto IV. Or even Wii Fit.
I actually tried to get out of doing a midnight launch, but no dice.
-
My store is getting in 18 of the 80 GB bundles.
-
That's on the high end of allocations.
-
fucking awesome. looks like ill procrastinate till the last minute before i go up there!
-
I ain't gettin no gubment monies. My momma screwed me over. :'(
-
I blew my government money on a new PC :bow
-
Buying a PS3 is stupid anyway.
-
Willco, is that your one and only shipment or are you expecting more?

We have absolutely no idea what future product allocations will look like, nor does Sony (I asked the rep when he came in). Could be gone from most stores within 24 hours... forever!
Hopefully not.

Buying a PS3 is stupid anyway.
Which is why you bought one.
-
I sold mine about a week ago.
-
PS3 is a great bluray player, but im mostly upset about the GAMES. Ive never liked the MGS series and well....what else is there again? Again, thank GOD its the best bluray player on the market for affordability and quality lol
-
I sold mine about a week ago.
But Planet Earth!
-
They need to come off the goddamn price of those blu rays, though, it's ridiculous.
Example - Batman the movie (1966) comes out on July 1st in a superduper special edition. Same special edition also comes out on DVD the same day. Price of the Blu Ray at retail is $39.99. Price of the DVD at retail is $9.99. That's a fucking $30 difference. Even if you get it off Amazon or elsewhere at a discount, you're still gonna pay around $28. And the DVD will be discounted, too, probably around $8. That's still a $20 difference. This is why Blu Ray isn't taking off as fast as they thought, because they are fuckgreedy. Blu Ray = this gen's laserdisc if they don't commence dropping the prices. People look at the DVD on the shelf, and then the Blu Ray next to it, and wonder what makes the Blu Ray worth triple the price. Then they go buy a handful of DVDs for the same $30.
-
Short Circuit was cheap; thats all you should be buying
-
But Planet Earth!
I didn't sell that. Either Microsoft will release a BD add-on and/or unit by year's end or I'll nab a player when the prices get cut for Q4. I'm not going to hold on to a PlayStation 3 in the meanwhile. It's worthless as a game console.
I also agree that BD might very well tank. We could be looking at a DVD future until digital HD content is mainstream. It's getting there. Maybe Microsoft, Netflix, etc. have the right idea.

i'm about to run out of my trade-in credits at moviestop, so my blu ray buying days are over unless i hit a sale or buy used off ebay, because i'll be fucked if i ever pay $30 for a movie
-
Blu-Rays can be bought used, ya know.
-
I'm planning on getting Warhawk, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, and Metal Gear Solid 4. Sadly those are pretty much the only games out that I'd like to own.
-
Sadly, three, maybe all four are rentals.
-

Not off retail shelves, which is where most people see them and go "Thirty dollars for fucking SEMI-PRO? Fuck a Blu Ray."
-
I just got back from Korea, got a few Kubrick Blu-rays I'd been craving for about $22 a pop.
:bow Region A being Japan, USA, and Korea :bow2
Wait region encoding still sucks
-
Blerg the Gamestop next to my house said they would sell the Ps3s on thursday morning not wednesday night. Meh Think ill pass after all.
-
It's up to manager's discretion.
I will probably sell three units at midnight and three in the morning. I cannot wait to see the outrage.
-
I hope I can get the PS3 on Thurs morning.. .don't feel like waiting on line at midnight with a buncha nerds... once was enough (for Smash Bros, only game I care enough to get the day it came out).

But the whole reason they brought out BRD is because they were sick of a DVD market that was full of $40 players and $15 movies.

FatalT, a PS3 is not worth 10 bucks unless you care about watching films in HD. Just play MGS4 on some dummy's PS3.
