When I move back to California in a few years I REALLY want to get a Siberian Lynx.
I got to spend some time with a few rescued Siberian Lynx's yesterday and its the most amazing breed...
How could you not love this happy face?

Adult males grow into the 80-100 LB range.
Check out the war face;

Here is a female version;

I should be ok - years ago we actually had a rescued lioness that was just under 300 lbs that I got on well with.
At first she would hiss, spit at and punch me - but I would go in and lay down on the ground next to her and sleep while she was asleep and that seemed to take the edge off. ITs funny that a larger cat wont play with string - but she would chase a big heavy chain if you dragged it along the ground.
We ultimately donated her to a rescued cat ranch.
We took her away from poachers.

wonder if this method works for all females AMIRITE GUYS?! :tomato

I would advise against owning such an animal. Trust me, there is nothing scarier than seeing a carnivorous animal miss it's food and then you see a rat with it's tail half-dangling off and biting a snake's back while your friend beats the rat with a TV remote.
on that note, albino crocs are my favorite obscure animals. they look a lot more beautiful in real life.

The first few times she would wake up and while still halfway asleep be very friendly, roll over on her back stretch, yawn etc...but as soon as the woke up enough to realize "WTF - there is a human here next to me!" she would pop right up and go into hiss/spit mode.
Watching the sudden attitude change as she woke up was funny stuff.

Is abrader admitting to being a furry? ???

Is abrader admitting to being a furry? ???
nay - i take naps with my abbysinnian all the time...
also when cats bite me i bite them back.
If I do this from the time they are a kitten they grow up and stop biting me ;)

Ok, but I think there is a difference between sleeping with a house cat and a 300lb lioness
We may need to get a professional like sonarrat to decide...
-
Sorry you dont get it Narag but it works well.
My Abyssinian is so well trained that he will jump up on my shoulder and perch like a parrot when i ask him to.

Also a big difference between laying on the ground next to a cat or having your 200 lb dog lay in bed with you and doing gross furry things with animals ;)
-
No I get it and why it would work, I've just never heard anyone say they've done that is all.
-
yeah you dont want to hurt the cat - so just bite it on the ear or some such to show it "teeth hurt"
-
Why would I want to bite my cat? Can't I spritz it with water instead?

Sure - but then the cat will just know to haul ass when it sees the spray bottle- but it will think it can bite you till you get the bottle out ;)
-
So I use my alternative option - swat it with my hand
-
So the reason I mention the ranch is that I wouldnt even think of taking on a cat like the Lynx unless he had a large safe outdoor area to roam around in hunting birds and such.
ITs no indoor cat.
Right now I live in a condo in the city - not a good time...
Id also love to have some of those African rock penguins.

Thats cool -
I also notice that by getting close face to face with my cats when they are a young age helps them grow up and understand that they shouldnt swat at my face or get their claws out when they are close to my head etc...
The bad part is that my cat only treats me well - he scratches the hell out of and bites everyone else.
He will chase lorraine down and bite her ankles and legs in an attempt to take her down ;)

I've noticed this myself. If I have my face near my kitty, he won't do anything.

^^ while its good that they make the distinction - be sure to be rdy to dodge in the event of a random kitty spazz.
-
i have a siberian housecat (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberian_cat)
his paws are also huge and thick like that lynx. when he spreads them out they get real wide too, like snowshoes.
-
this is the gayest thread of the day
-
That thing looks like a pet of the devil.
-
Lynxes are evil. Just on principle. They're like souped-up bobcats; souped-up on SATAN.
-
Am I wrong to find a lot of this thread creepy?
-
This crazy muthafucka slept next to a wild lion bitch.
-
My kitty likes to sleep on my chest and in my arm. :-*
-
a Siberian Lynx walks into a bar, "I'll have a rum and...(five seconds of silence) coke."
the bartender asks "What's with the huge pause?"
the Lynx looks at his hands and says "I've had them all my life."

But he doesn't have hands, he has paws.

I'd get an ocelot if I had a ranch.

Disappointed at the lack of ridable electric dildoes in this thread.
-
Are these animals really meant to be domesticated? As much as I admire rescue groups, taking these cats and any other endangered animals in should only be a temporary fix.

I totally agree. If it were an option I'd have an ocelot, but it's not and never will be. They're wild and should be kept as such.

Salvador Dali disagrees.
