Why is it popular to hate Gladiator?

it got a few oscars in a pretty shit year for oscars. so you associate that shit year with the movie.
and Russel Crowe was in it. he throws phones at people.
-
Fightin 'round the world
-
So it won an Oscar, there's a dumb Internet backlash? That's distinguished mentally-challenged - the movie still rocked.

Do they disable your account if you get some content yanked from you?

I'm ashamed to admit I've never seen Gladiator unedited - I've seen it many times on TNT lol. It's a pretty damn badass movie to me. Not the greatest thing ever but it's fucking gladiators and Rome. How can you possibly go wrong?

I think willco is fighting invisible internet demons, I see no gladiator hate here
-
don't hardcore Ridley Scott fans/film fegs consider it to be very overrated or something?
-

I'm saying in general. Go hit up NeoGAF or the AICN talkbacks or what have you. Within the past several years, it's been very cool to hate on Gladiator. I read some discussion lately that Gladiator proves Ridley Scott has no skills anymore. What the hell? Gladiator rocked. I mean, if there's a recent Scott film to hate, it should be American Gangster.
-
I loved Gladiator for what it was. I just like quoting Commodus

well when one person on the internet wants to act cool and be the first to insult a movie, another person copies them. and then it snowballs and you end up with Ridley Scott being called a hack. normal internets bitching.

Gladiator is easily one of the most authentic period films I've ever seen.

oh did someone request a gladiator hater?
film was lame.
it wasn't even cleopatra, much less quo vadis.
-
Gladiator pretty much dominated my teenaged years. Seeing it in theaters right in the middle of puberty was fucking awesome.

That was an insult? ???
I thought it was funny that you were praising its historical accuracy when right on the same page someone had already posted that image, which is an historical inaccuracy. Unless you didn't know that was inaccurate and thought I was giving your post a thumbs down.
MAF got it.
Although maybe you were talking about the production values and not the nuts and bolts, since pretty much all the characters either didn't exist or existed in a very different way than presented in the movie.

Good editing.

WEEEOOOOPEEEEOOOOWEEEEEOOOOOOPEEEEOOOO!

If you want something close to accuracy, watch both seasons of ROME. Thats fun stuff.

I hear that 300 was based on actual events that actually happened.

Yeah, the Musical Goatman wrote the first-hand account.

The best thing I ever heard about a period film was while I was over at my wife's best friend's house and we were watching Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. This best friend's dad was watching the film with us while the girls were getting ready and during a scene where they're flying and fighting in the trees he says "You know they used to be able to do that stuff but it was because they were possessed by demons." I think I was too much in shock to laugh because he was totally serious. He's a nice dude but he's completely :dur

Gladiator is one of the most historically inaccurate films of all time actually. Commodus was not a sniveling bitch who killed his father and died at the hands of a gladiator. A wrestler killed him in his bath :supergay

I have no idea where his head is, every time I've talked to him I wonder what plane of existence his mind is on.

I did know. I actually received flak for saying that the whole thumbs-up/down thing was always wrong in movies in my 7th Grade History class and my teacher punished me.
Although maybe you were talking about the production values and not the nuts and bolts, since pretty much all the characters either didn't exist or existed in a very different way than presented in the movie.
The nuts and bolts thing. The way that theme, acting, the general look of the film produced something that felt very real. As opposed to something distinguished mentally-challenged like Troy, where characters are flying through the air doing ninja stabs, and acting so stoic I wanted to throw up. Yeah, sorry I wasn't more detailed.
