Title: Paintball marker design just hit a new high
Post by: duckman2000 on June 10, 2008, 02:05:10 AM
Well, the "milsim" approach at least. Behold, the BT TM-7!

It's an Invert Mini, with an MP7 decor. Internal air line, on-the-fly firing mode switch, fuck awesome look, oh my.

HOT

For a paintball gun, that some impressive design. Compared to any other gun, not so much.

Well, that's the thing. Other companies have tried to get the whole military look down, but this is pretty damned close to the original. Of course, slap a big dumb hopper on the thing and it looks horrible again.  :(

isn't it illegal to have a toy gun without the orange tip?  even a paintball gun with it's paintball hopper could give cops a reason to shoot.

Paintball guns aren't toys. BB and pellet guns don't have red tips and I don't think airsoft guns do either.

I never understood that, why don't criminals just paint the tips of their guns orange?

They want to come off as 'intimidating',  not giving people the idea that they're using toy guns.

Depends on the state laws, I think. To manufacturers, there's obviously a dilemma; pushing for orange tips puts them in the good eye of law enforcement and minimizes injury in death due to. On the other hand, the orange tips naturally screams toys, which is obviously not something avid milsim types want. And if you alienate that group, then the accessory industry will die.

With paintball, the markers are classified as weapons, and there is also the issue of barrels being easily exchangeable. And there's the same issue there; if they push for classification and regulation of the markers as toys, then the orange tip is the next step, which would effectively kill rec and milsim paintball.

As for this marker, some dude I know is apparently going to a demonstration of the TM-7, should be hot. I've been looking into finally going electro (the SP1s I have don't count), and this might be the marker that seals the deal.

Because a cop would still freak out and assume it's a real gun..

I've never been paintballing. It's something I'd like to try, definitely.

Do yourself a favor and cut your teeth on a more controlled field, ie one that limits ROF by way of allowing only semi markers, or limiting players to using gravity hoppers. You may want to do some general research on the field, how efficient the refs are and so forth. Nothing sucks the fun out of paintball quite like finding yourself playing on an unmoderated field with wipers and agglets who consider achieving insane ROF to be the true skill of paintball.

Yes this, playing on a bad field makes it suck big time.   And ROF = rate of fire nikki.  ;)

If everyone got to cut their teeth on fields like EMR or Hell's Survivors, paintball would be more popular. A friend of mine recently went to some no-name course (rather large and well populated though) for his first paintball game, and spent an hour or so getting shot up by smug Ego owners who themselves thought nothing of wiping the paint off their own swine skin. Suffice to say, he's not thrilled about paintball.

Speaking of insane ROF, that Bob Long marker allegedly has a ROF cap of 28bps. Jesus.
