Title: Who should Obama pick as VP?
Post by: The Fake Shemp on June 11, 2008, 05:15:43 PM
I think these are the most likely contenders.

I say Edwards... even if he does have the slight stink of '04 loserdom still on him, everyone liked him better than Kerry anyway.
Richardson might be good too.  There are a lot of good candidates out there for the position.

Sebelius. Woman; moderate; midwestern; former military. She's appeasement to the paleo-feminist Hillary squad, the fence-riders, the Ohio/Kansas slopebrows, and the rah-rah tuff-talkin' set in one fell swoop.

Mark Warner

I say no to Mark Warner.  While I like the guy, he's about to take another Senate seat for the Dems from the other Warner... and he's getting primed to run for President next time around.

I think he should pick the reanimated corpse of Hunter S. Thompson.  If that's not possible, then he needs to go with a governor like Tim Kaine from VA or Brian Schweitzer from MT.

1. Edwards
2. Sam Nunn
3. Wesley Clark
4. Hillary

Then I'd go with Biden or Dodd just for the lulz they'd bring. I don't like Hillary, but he's got to acknowledge her winning 1/2 of the primary in some manner. He needs to appeal to the over 50s somehow. That's an enormous voting block.

Sebelius.

She is a woman (so disgruntled Hillary lovers can't scream about misogyny), for gun rights and other issues (so the right wing extremist media has no foundation of saying they will take your guns away from the gun nuts), a Governor, and she worked well with Obama already.

Sebelius would be a good low-hanging fruit pick, but her lack of experience in even talking about the larger world stage would probably couple poorly with calls already made against Obama's amount of experience. Least thats what everyone says.

Biden perhaps, but otherwise, Sebelius

the argument I've seen though is that picking someone with obvious foreign policy experience will only serve to highlight Obama's relative inexperience, so they may want to lean away from that

He's got a ton of choices...all of them pretty good.

I personally hope he picks Webb just because he seems to be one of those kinds of Senators that could occupy a seat for decades.

He's gotta do something to win my support!

Although I do have to say, stopping the oceans from rising is some Moses-level shit. Or wait... actually Moses made the oceans rise, didn't he?  So really Obama would be like the anti-Moses.  And uh... if Moses is sorta a Jesus-like figure, then that kinda means Obama is the Antichrist.  Which makes sense, since he's charismatic, has a throng of cult-like followers, his skin is as black as the cavernous void found in the spot a mortal man's soul would rest, and he will damn the God-fearing United States of Jesusland into Satan's fiery pit for all eternity while his cadre of distinguished sand gentlemen wrest control over this mortal plane.

Anyway, yeah Bayh.  This and my McCain predictions are LOCKS.  YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST

Sebelius would be a slap in the face for Hillary supporters, as would Webb sadly. I don't think that's worth it. Apparently Biden's name keeps coming up...

If Obama wants to win he should take Hillary. Personally I don't want her though. If Warner wasn't running for the senate (god dammit) I'd take him.

Evan Bayh or Wesley Clark, although the latter apparently isn't on the short list. My perfect candidate would be someone with some executive experience (former/current governor), a foreign policy background, and a strong opponent of the Iraq war from the start. Sadly that candidate doesn't exist

Mexican on the ticket? No.

A double minority ticket may be too much change for many people to believe in. Plus we know he's a pretty bad debater, dunno how he'd work as VP. Seems better suited for a high cabinet position to me.

I don't think Biden has a shot at the VP.

The point of the VP, although unofficially, is to corner other demographics that the President will fail to get themselves.  Obama and Biden are too similar.  Two senators would not really do that well.  I believe that Obama and probably McCain will go for a Governor as a VP.

IMO the point of the VP pick is to solidify your branding.
